No other full size truck has a locking gas door. Either everyone has to unanimously decide to stop buying new ones until they rectify that or you just have to suck it up.

I prefer one that is in dash, but if you are going to do the floating bit, it's an example of one that looks like it was planned and thought through, at least.

I agree on the design. However, I suppose my main driver was probably price in the end. I can't remember what thread I mentioned this, but when I learned that the functionality of the 8" & 14" were the same (unless you spent the extra $$ for all the cameras), I decided to save the money. I do like the idea of a bigger screen but I don't like how it isn't "integrated" into the dash.

I rarely do this, but I'll give kudos to RAM with that 12" Navos screen. I really like how the screen is portrait (instead of landscape like most screens) and how its fully molded into the dash. It's probably the best integration of a giant screen in a truck right now IMHO. I've never used their screen so the software might be garage, but "looks" wise...it's solid.

The gray trim piece that visually connects the 2 passenger vents is vertical. The lower dash, where "TUNDRA" is stamped is angled back toward the cubby. The cubby is really nice and I don't understand why Toyota only put it on the SR & SR5. My wife and I sat in a Platinum during my 5k service visit and her first statement was, "There's no cubby for my stuff! Your truck is more wife friendly." It made me laugh.

If you're used to a CM then 100% stick with a CM. I had a Crew Cab 2007 F-150 for a couple of years and I just used the backseat for storage more than anything. When I had that truck, I always wished I had gone with an extended cab with the longer bed. Hence my decision on this truck. If you carry people as much as you haul stuff in the bed...definitely get a CM. I do not. I can count on 1 hand how many times people sat in the back seat of my trucks. haha. If we need to carry people...we take the 4Runner, but every situation is different.

Best one I saw was the Challenger a few years ago. It flowed perfectly with the dash.

Never seen a floating one in a Challenger though.

Yeah, sorry, that was for the integrated one. That was at a time when every other car just had one of the stick on popup ones and Dodge managed to do that and keep the old school feel of the interior, which I loved.

I believe the cubby is there on lower trim and the upper is because the Hybrid has electronics under the dash in that location. I'm guessing to keep all upper trims look alike, they deleted the cubby.

So long as there are still hard buttons for things like the AC, Volume, and Tune, I don't know that I have a preference for vertical or horizontal screens. Purely from what I am used to I lean more toward the horizontal because it's similar to TVs, monitors, etc. The only time I really use any screen in a vertical format is on a phone and that is because of the scrolling involved.

Mixed feelings here. Storage is good, but if people just pile crap in it as a catch all, then I'd rather not have it. Very individual situation for the dash cubby.

I'm not in the market, but I love to see the ins and outs of the new stuff. I am always window shopping and drooling over vehicles, but I am planning to keep the truck I have.

I get the thought about the goofy size. But think about the future. The software is far better with the bigger monitor. Supposedly will allow for updating. For me, with the money I’m spending, if I can live update and not go in for a fix that can be done in my driveway… I’m sold.

It's not the size. It's the subpar execution. It looks like the dash was designed for a different size screen, but then they crammed the bigger on in as an "upgrade."

I think that’s just understanding that’s how it has to be done without doing a Tesla or Ram style dash. Look at all the other brands out there. They seriously all look like that. From Honda to Audi. It’s a customer desire thing. People want big screens. But I know for me, I also want real buttons. So big screen means it stands up like this and I get buttons down below… or they’d have to tilt the screen back and you wouldn’t be able to reach the screen all the way. Plus you’d have glare and a reflection onto your face on sunny days. Thankfully they did offer the smaller display for those who don’t want the larger upgraded display.

I don't think I'm properly communicating what I mean. It sticking up isn't the issue. Look at the message of mine you originally quoted and the first pic that I said was good. That screen has a finished appearance that I feel the Tundra's screen lacks. It has a trim piece built for it, where the big one on the Tundra literally looks like computer monitor wedged into the dash. I get that the demand is for large screens and all, but Toyota just doesn't use a very good interior design language to accommodate that demand.

So how come the Challenger, which theoretically should have a shorter dash than a truck, can do it?

How big is that display? I start to question what they shoved under each dash. And listen, I don’t know and honestly I don’t care. I’m not looking to fix what someone else doesn’t like. I’m a giant fan of the entire interior of the 22 tundra. My only complaint doesn’t affect me. That complaint is, why take away the under seat storage with the hybrids? But I’m sure they thought long and hard about other places to put the battery and they figured that was best. Who knows. And who cares. If that kills you, go buy a ford.

People's critiques of the truck or it's design choices are not personal attacks. I'm glad you like everything about your truck. The fact that others don't care for some of their choices shouldn't detract from that, but in the same breath, you loving it doesn't invalidate any other criticisms or opinions. We can have both, completely satisfied and also those who are not, in the same room and carry on a conversation. That's the whole point. Enjoy the conversations. :)

Just did a build btw.. 8.4 is the largest display in the Challenger. 6 inches smaller. I am sure that has something to do with it.

    :gossip:Challenger wasn't me.

Yeah, a 14" screen is going to be a challenge for sure. Personally I wonder if they could have mounted it a bit lower, brought the dash/trim up over it a bit, and just had the buttons below it move too. I'll have to look at the interior to see how feasible this would have been.

Went and looked at one, and it looks like there was room for it. Don't know the dash internals, but barring something major, there was room to mount it fully in the dash. Then the dash trim above the vents could continue unbroken across the top and even be popped out a bit to provide a bit of a hood for glare. Personal preference, for sure, but that would be mine.

I wonder if they could have put them above the screen. Put the screen lower… I will be curious to see if they change things up in 3-4 years at all

only problem moving it down would be the actual line of sight. right now where it is, its almost level, if you move it down its going to be more of a look over and down and then you lose some peripheral vision while driving from what i can tell.

have that issue on the 4runner and the 18 tundra.
