Rear view Mirror

I have a SR% that came with the most basic rear view mirror. I want to add a Gentex auto dimming mirror but wondering if the connector is already there or will I need to run power to it from somewhere else.

In some cases optional connectors are left in and hidden but I doubt they would leave one up in the headliner, potential for rattle right above your head. You will most likely need to run power up there from another location.

 

There may be existing connectors. I added the rear view mirror with home link on my order via the dealer, of course whomever (port or dealer) installs it may just splice not sure if it’s auto dimming or not.

When you say it works, do you mean that the OEM connector IS in the headliner AND that the connector fits a Kia based rear view mirror?????

 

The mounting points will work. Not sure if there is a connector for your model but it’s pretty simple to hookup with ground, constant and ign 12V.

 

I have the SR5 also looking to do the auto dimming upgrade with homelink, Has anyone pulled the above head console out to see what's available as far as wiring?

 

There are 3 connectors above the overhead console, one of which is for the Dashcam. I have made adapters to convert the 12v to 5v with part numbers to connector and pins(wires). This connector provides constant power, ignition power, and ground. You'll find that info in the Dashcam threads within the 3rd Tundra forums.
The other 2 connectors, I have no information on.
There is mention in the thread of a connector in the shroud covering the electronics of the windshield, there is where you would find the mirror connector, I believe. Instructions on how to remove the shroud is also in one of the Dashcam threads.

Anyone make a plug and play harness for adding the Kia mirror to the tundra?

 

Can confirm that the Accessory listed above is the Gentex Prism frameless mirror. It is battery operated with Homelink, does not have auto dimming.

Ok ordered the Kia mirror as suggested. It does not fit if you have the windshield camera on 22 tundra. I have the SR5 with the camera and the boom on the aftermarket mirror is not long enough to adjust mirror. I did figure out there is a plug already there behind the overhead console. its the white plug to the left(drivers side) Pink wire is constant 12v, Green is ignition 12v and white is ground. Mirror worked fine just couldn't adjust it enough with camera system there.

 

That connector you described is for the Toyota Ingrated DashCam, if you get that later, you'll need to change your set up. It also helps others if you have pictures of mirror during install and after.

 

Ordered a 1” spacer for the mirror. If it works I’ll post the pics I already took. I did tap the wires so the plug for the dash cam will still be available.

 

I ordered a 1" spacer for the mirror mount and works perfect. I tapped into the this plug, Pink wire is constant12v (connect to black wire on mirror harness) Green wire is ignition switched 12v (connect Black &white wire on mirror harness) The white wire is Ground ( connect ground)

Ok. I have a 22 SR5 TRD OR premium. I don’t have the homelink mirror. You’re saying there is a plug I can tap into up there? So I can get rid of this 1999 basic mirror and get a homelink mirror? I don’t care if it dims. I just want the garage control. Lil ridiculous this doesn’t come standard in 2022.

 

Are you in Canada? I checked out my TRD OR premium today and it has homelink and rear camera/screen in the mirror.

Alright. I didn't realize it was in another package. I thought it was part of the OR premium. Ya, you'd think for what these cost it would come standard on the truck.

 

I agree. I must say, I’m a little disappointed. These trucks should have some of these features cause they have been standard on other makes for years now. It’s been a while since I owned a Toyota. I forget they are always behind on the tech side. But come on, garage controls and driver seat memory presets should be standard. Especially at this price point. Hopefully I can figure out a way to put a homelink mirror or something in.

Yes the Kia (Gemtex)mirror has auto dimming compass and homelink. Had to add a 1” spacer and tapped in behind the overhead console. It works great. Read through this thread someone posted the mirror part number and I posted the spacer part needed along with pics and what wires go to what.

Looks like the spacer is more expensive than the mirror! I bought a cheap Broadway mirror on Amazon but I really want the auto dim function. I might try this out. Did the Kia mirror come with a connector or did you have to add one and if so, which one did you get? Thanks!
