My 2022 is all over the damn place, was at 3/4 put 30L in. The gauge didn’t move, it’s beyond frustrating no idea what so ever is in the truck. It’s is my one complaint.

So I took it back to the dealer again today and they opened a case with Toyota. They acknowledged that yep there's an issue and they're working on it. The dealer didn't know though if it will be a recall or a fix as you complain type thing.

Mine finally seemed to resolve itself after a long road trip and several fill ups on that trip. Hopefully that is the end of it, but time will tell

So the dealer opened a case with Toyota with mine. Toyota came back and acknowledged there's an issue but as of today no fix yet. But there will be. As I figured.

This just happened to me. Picked up the Tundra last Thursday, showed 3/4 full the other day and now I’m back to full today. My driveway is a bit of an incline, which may be what triggered it according to other posts.

I’m making a list of a few bugs to let them know about here shortly. I’ll be heading in soon as they didn’t include my TRD skid plate with my OR package, really only noticed that when I went under the truck to put my cat shield on.

This forum has helped me tremendously in what to look out for!

The “skid plate” with the off-road package is not the aluminium one. It’s a pretty small plastic material.

I have the 32 gallon tank. Distance to empty was 30 miles. Filled up, only took 26 gallons. I wish that it was more accurate.

So I was having this same problem and I did some experimenting and discovered this. It happens when I cut the engine before putting the truck in Park. As most probably know this is the best way to keep the radio on after cutting the engine, without having to wait for the Entertainment system to reboot. What I found is that when I cut the engine and then put it in park to keep the radio on, it reset the gauge, and I watched it happen. When I did this with my truck at half a tank and nose up it reset to 3/4. When I did it nose down it reset to 1/4. when I did on a flat surface it reset back to 1/2. Once I have done this and reset it, it will maintain that level as its baseline, counting down from it, until I do the same thing and reset it again. I just sent this info to my dealer, as they had opened a case with Toyota about it. Weirdly enough they are saying Toyota hasn't heard anything about this issue at all, which according to other posts on here can't be accurate.

Every time I’ve filled up on empty I’m only putting in about 26 gallons with my limited TRD OF. Today for the first time after filling up my tank the gauge stayed on empty. Drove the truck around, restarted it a few times, and couldn’t get it to correct. I ended up disconnecting the negative on the battery and that did the trick. My truck has about 3k miles and I’m sure this probably isn’t the last time I’ll have this problem.

    Thank you for this!

I am at 8,000’ headed to 12,000’ feet leading a group of 20 rigs and my fuel gauge snapped to full, while I wished it to be true knew it wasn’t. I am 20 miles from gas so knowing my gauge is just slightly needed.

Powering off in D and shifting to park work up the gauge. Again thank you

BTW I got service cuz one guy had the RV Starlink. I don’t love having service off road but it was just as fast as home wifi

I started having the same issue yesterday. Took it to dealership and they said they took the fuel out and put it back in. I had 3/4 tank left then parked for 20min. After I started the truck it went to full, showing 450miles to empty. Dealership there was no issues and wanted me to take a video. here it is.

Mine did it again the other day. I took pictures and it will be on my 5K visit and second time at the dealer.

Do the above mentioned trick, shut of the truck while in drive, then move it to park. Wait like 10 seconds and your gas needle will move to the actual fuel level

Same here, parking at home in the garage no issues. While camping in the mountains, parking on a grade fuel gauge read 1/4 tank higher than when parked. Took to the Toyota dealer, they checked electrically and did not find an issue, but said I need to bring it in with about a 1/4 tank of gas to drop the tank down to check sending unit.

To reset it so far, just fill it up. Over 7,000 miles on the Tundra.

Hope a software upgrade will fix it.

I was one of the first to report this issue to Toyota back in December after owning it for only one week. They dropped the tank and checked sending unit. That was not the issue. Even had the tech came to my house, hooked up his computer and watched the needle moved. Bottom line is Toyota doesn't have a fix yet. Hate to say this but even after disconnecting the battery, it will happen again.

My wife has a 2020 Highlander Limited and it’s had fuel gauge issues since new. Our driveway is on a slope and if the fuel level is less than 3/4 it will randomly do what you describe when it’s been parked overnight. The gauge will be near empty and DTE is less than 30 miles. Low fuel warnings too. We took it in and they flashed the software, which cleared it up for a couple weeks, but the problem returned. It’s been back two more times and they keep telling us they can’t find anything wrong. IMHO the sender is at fault but they don’t listen, we just live with it, for now.

Just had this issue as well - glad i'm not alone! Was out "wheeling" on some steep terrain, pulled off the trail to let someone else by, turned off the truck and hung out for a few minutes, turned the truck back on and my half tank of gas was then full again. I'll try some of these reported quick fixes and report back. I'm at about 2500 miles now, haven't seen this issue until now.

Since our camping trip in the mountains when we had fuel gauge issues and since back at home, only parking in garage, No Issues with fuel gauge. Seems like parking on close to level ground issue does not happen. Happened only when parking on grades.

When the gauge increased from 7/8 to full while camping, next day towed the camper home from the mountains with the fuel gauge reading correctly by the time we were back home, close to 1/2 tank taking 16 gallons in a 32 gallon tank.

Always reset the odometer during fill-up, and already know MPG when towing or not towing, easy to keep up with until issue is resolved by Toyota. This is how I keep from running out of fuel with motorcycles without fuel gauges, too.

    My first post on here...

Had the same issue this week. Noticed after 3 days of driving my tank was still full.
Did the leave in drive, turn off hack. And it returned to proper level. Band-aid solution however.

I'm sure there will be a TSB for this issue. But if people dont report it to the dealerships, it wont be fixed.

    They know.
The second time I took mine to the dealer for this they contacted the Toyota service rep (for maybe the region or corporate??) . Anyway, they responded saying they know about it. So be assured it will be fixed....
    Its Toyota......

I'm astonished how well the trick shutting the truck off while in drive works to fix it. Either someone got incredibly lucky in figuring that out or understands completely what's wrong and why the system does that

    Has this been resolved?
I just started having this issue after I had the Parking Brake recall done last week.
It did it to me this morning, while driving, I noticed my range kept going up. Left the house at 1/2 a tank, got to work (18miles) at 3/4 tank, did the turning it off on Drive and it went down below 1/2 a tank.

That's strange. Mine just goes to full all at once. I'll just look down and see the needle past full knowing I don't have a full tank.
I don't think mine has not done it to me at least once after every fill up. Easy enough to work around though.

I have the same issue with my 2022 Platinum (delivered in June), when the truck is on a incline or decline --specifically when I launch my boat on a steep boat ramp the fuel gauge will then indicate a full tank, when I KNOW it is not full. I contacted the Dealer’s Service Manager and he said he had not heard of the issue. I told him I have to manually observe my mileage because I don’t trust the fuel gauge. Based upon all your posts here on this forum (thank you) I asked if he could call Toyota corporate and dig into it. I didn’t want to bring my Tundra there and have them waste my time and their time and not repair it. He called me back and told me that He contacted a Toyota Tundra field specialist and they are aware of the issue. He said that whenever you drive the Tundra under 3mph reverse or forward on a incline the fuel gauge will indicate that the tank is full. He said it’s a software issue and Toyota is aware of it and is developing a software update. He said He will call me as soon as it is available. What surprises me is that there’s no posts here from any off-roaders and what they experience while four wheeling. After owning a 2nd Gen Tundra that ran for over 220k miles over 14 years, I believe they will correct the problem. If I hear anything else I’ll post more.
