Yeah the more I look at it, the more it doesn’t look like an FCD part.

Went shooting with my son and a buddy tonight. Sure enough buddy's suppressor fits my son's 22. Everyone had fun shooting it.

Of course my son wants me to get one now. But that's a hefty up front cost for a hobby we just started together. Though, from what I understand, I may as well start the process sooner rather than later.

I'll have pics of mine, if I ever figure out what handgun I decide to buy. Decisions, decisions...

The suppressed .22 is one of the most fun guns we own, and I just had a friend from Nepal over who had never touched a gun before and we started him on that.

Suppressor paperwork is now filed electronically through a website, and supposed to drop the approval time down to 90 days or less so if you decide to get one you're actually at a prime time to do so, a year ago the wait time was a year (I'm still waiting on stuff from August before the online forms was a thing). Though suppressors in general are now cheap considering what they are, though .22s are by far the cheapest. Plus you pay a $200 tax stamp, which for a .22 suppressor can be nearly 50% of the total out the door cost and makes the suppressor cost more than the gun. If you're serious about it, I would try to find a dedicated gun store nearby and hopefully they have everything in place to help you through the process (that's how we started). There's also places like silencershop.com where apparently the whole process is 100% online (the new online filing I'm sure has simplified it too) but I've never tried that. It can be daunting with all the forms and you need to do fingerprints and send off copies; if there's a place that just sells the suppressor in person locally then it's just like buying a gun and you do everything in one visit and then get a call months later to pick it up.

Excuse the long post, I spent awhile researching stuff and it was very confusing. At least your buddy can advise you too, I was essentially blind when I first considered getting a suppressor.

Just to piggyback on this for @DerfM... Go to https://www.silencershop.com/storelocator or https://silencerco.com The first link will allow you to search your area by zipcode for stores that have the 'kiosks' to make the online process and forms much easier and you can see a variety of options for whatever weapon system you are looking to purchase!!!

Keep in mind each jurisdiction is different in terms of what is allowed for ownership, etc. of Class III/NFA weapons/items. So, it's always best to do a little homework on the legal side of things prior to purchase... Good luck and have fun!!!!

@TNTundra16 what do I have here? Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II chambered in 40 with adjustable rear sights. Shop owner kept it in the back because he didn't want people handling it, I was there inquiring about 3" 1911s and he asked if I was interested in a 40 which I said I wasn't. He went on to tell me these were uncommon and potentially a prototype. He took me to the back and showed me, I fell for it and bought it. Box is a Kimber box with no sticker giving barcode or serial number.20220603_171936.jpg 20220603_171943.jpg 20220603_171956.jpg 20220603_171936.jpg

Those in .40 s&w are very rare. Early to mid 2000s production would be my guess. What baffles me is the bomar rear sight. Never seen those on the little Kimbers. Maybe someone had a smith mill the slide for one?

That's what baffles me also. I think I'll call Kimber Monday with the serial number and see if they have any history on how it came. The box has no barcode stickers or model stickers just a black Kimber box with a brochure under the padding. Dealer says he thinks it's a prototype but who knows.

I found where a couple sold on online auctions so they do make them but I'm almost certain the rear sight was done by a smith or maybe sent to kimber and done

Kimber would definitely know if those are their handy work. They do look like the factory kimber target night sights because of the bar under the rear sight notch

I had bought a set of used Altamont grips on the S&W forum.
Loved the way they felt in my hand.
Hated the way they felt on the pistol.

Can anyone tell me why I didn't like them?
I know one of you guys can..

I've had em too and feel the same way about them. They look damn good though. I prefer hogue wood grips for my revolvers.

Then you know what the issue is.
I can see it in your pics, especially this one.

The lack of material above your first finger is the problem, it ruins the grip balance.
Even with my 3" barrels, it makes the gun way too front-heavy.
I'd imagine those Houges would balance that heavy lugged Ruger very nicely...

Oh well, I'll resell the Altamonts, on the S&W forum.
Even the rubber Hogues feel better than those Altamonts did..:eek2:
They were on 686+ #1 when I bought it.

Not really, I have one of those gel butt pads I throw on it when I shoot it so it's not just a brass plate against your shoulder and it feels fine with that. It kicks like a mule, but it's kind of a drawn out recoil impulse instead of just being slapped like some guns, so it's not painful just something to lean into.

The hogues also have a nice palmswell that feels great in my hands at least. Also even though they're wood they're still a monogrip so there's no seam to mess with the feel of them unlike 2 piece grips.

Bought my first today. Pretty plain Jane, Sig Sauer P320 Compact. I did the training on a Glock 19 and just never felt comfortable with it. The grip just irked me, and other than the slide lock mechanism, I just didn't like the feel of it. A friend lent me their P320 and it was like night and day for me. Very comfortable, I felt like I shot better with it, I really enjoyed it. Also tried a Walther PDP, which was alright but felt really front heavy to me.

Granted, inexperienced and all. Just what I felt of those three which were my front runners to buy.

Edit: Also tried a H&K of some kind, an M&P Shield, a Springfield Hellcat, and a Springfield 1911. All in 9mm. The Glock, Sig, and Walther was my top choices.
