I'm failing to see the problem!! haha .. on another note, how hard were they to open? I don't plan to open mine, but if I do, I wonder if they were as hard as the 2.5 gens. Those were fun with their permaseal ugh.

They’re not hard to open, first one I had some issues because I didn’t get it quite warm enough, second one was the easiest I’ve opened. Had 3 sets of the last ones opened and my Ford transit. But right now I’m working on getting the permaseal off the lens. TRS is selling some subsonic knife to cut through it but I figured I haven’t needed it yet… I wish I got it.

This is why I HATE forums. Now I'm looking at my Limited lights thinking there is chrome in there that could very well be black ......... :monocle:

The headlights seem like a bridge too far.... after all, they are intended to be shiny objects at night!
The 'stache is the real trash here. It is a crime against Tundrumanity. If not for that big ugly thing, I would not have started this thread or be spending $100's to rid my truck of it and the other chrome ornaments.
But.... my journey continues. Paint shop called yesterday to say my red stache will be delayed until Monday. A long weekend ahead...:(

It’s way too far! But I take shit way too far, always. I only spent 6 hours max and 80$ to chrome delete my truck though. Shiny comes from the reflectors, I won’t touch those. But definitely like being different… that is why I do what I do after all! I’m built different.

You people are lucky you don't have a Limited in MGM. I didn't know it would have similar-colored (almost matches?) grill, fender flares and wheel insets. Mustache is still silver. Personally, black would have been nicer for the grill and wheels. Now I can't color-match the mustache without first replacing and/or painting the grill black.

I do plan on attacking the chrome, especially the window trim. Thank you all for your tips and photos!

Wasn’t worth it. Looks good, but drivers side lens got a little cloudy trying to get it clean enough to reassemble. It took 3 hours to pick the permaseal from the lens. I’d wait for morimoto or pro lights to come out. 8902BD44-D5EA-4582-930B-09673C18552E.jpg

Got my red handles from Roman at Cool Springs today... less than a week order to delivery. Took about 2 hours to get them installed... there are a couple of fiddly things but overall straightforward if you have the tools. I used PapaDave418's video and I am sure I could not have done it otherwise - I wasn't too experienced at door panels and trim. But I am now!
I'm glad I went with the red and not the black. The back sides of the red ones are black anyway so you get the black highlight which is nice.
So the sides are done. Getting my painted mustache back tomorrow and have fingers crossed it will be a match.

@tunfundra Sorry for late reply. Plastidip is basically a rubberized coating and is a great option for low contact areas like bumpers and grill chrome. There are other brands but plastidip is one of the best for this purpose. I'm not affiliated with them at all to be clear. I don't think it would be good for door handles as it is peelable. It does have good impact/chip resistance though so bumpers and grill and some people even do all their badges. I have done both bumpers and just did the grill too. Need to take a new picture with the black grill soon. Only part that I messed up was the hood trim but 100% my fault as I used a can that was almost empty for the finish coat. But thats what happens when you buy one can too little :tumbleweed:But anyway its a great option for about 50$ total if your willing to take the time to do it. Major pro is not have to worry about scratching or denting expensive paintmatches or wraps.

Looks like this guy (Last line of defense) was able to take off the plastic chrome piece on the handles and get them painted with everything else. Has anyone tried this? Would love this option as opposed to replacing the whole handle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkAZd0YThsA

Color me intrigued. I rattle canned/2k cleared my 2014 handles and they held up great for 7 years (and still are) so I'd have no reservations about pulling the handle covers. I posted on his video to see what his take was on his removal process but if they're double sided taped, sounds like some heat and trim tools might be the ticket!

I did it right and just replaced the handles, but for those that are curious, here is a couple shots of the handle's backside.

Pumped this thread exists. Will be getting quotes soon to wrap the stache and rear, and keeping fingers crossed they’ll release the army green handles sometime soon.

Are the color matched door handles from Roman just the cover, or the whole handle?

Just checked .. no response. I'm going to start searching eBay for take-offs or perhaps someone will keep lowering the price on their chrome ones and I can experiment lol

What do you think is reasonable for the chrome take offs? Have some sitting in a box in the garage
