I’m not the best when it comes to wiring so I’m asking the experts on this forum.

I have my two Baja rear s2’s hooked up to a two wire rocker switch currently. Everything works fine. There are two wires, one positive and one negative. On means on and off means off.

I bought a push button switch from CH4x4 to replace the rocker switch, but it has 4 wires.

    1) Green with yellow stripe
    2) red with yellow stripe
    3) red with yellow stripe
    4) Black

If I connect the green to the positive, the button will light up when depressed but the rear lights won’t turn on.

if I connect either of the red wires, the button instantly lights up regardless of ignition position. The rear lights do not light up from the push button no matter which color wires I have hooked to the positive.

Does it have something to do with the relay?

    Thanks in advance.

The switch you have now has two wires but you are a little off in describing them.

#1) Is power from the battery hopefully with a fuse in line.
#2) Is power to your lights. Not ground. The lights have to be grounded somewhere else. Maybe on the frame rail near where they are installed.

Your description of one wire positive one wire ground would not turn the lights on. Your current setup the switch is just a break between hooking the power side of the lights directly to the battery.

For the 4 wire switch wire it up like this. From the diagram @Brums posted above.

#1) Green - Power coming into the switch from the battery with a fuse inline.

#2) Red 1 - Power going out to your lights.

These 2 wires control the switch. The same two wires you already have.

The last 2 are for the illumination light built into the switch.

#3) Red 2 - Power for the illumination light in the switch.

#4) Black - Ground for the illumination light in the switch.

I’m 99% sure Toyota provides 12v power to the illumination lights on the dash 24/7 when key on. When you turn the headlights on it grounds out the other side to light up the button.

If you wanted the button to light up at night only with the headlights, you could put 12v power on 3 and then 4 ground tie into the ILL- circuit. Doing this it might even dim with the rest of the lights ect.

I would wire up the first 2 wires first and make sure the switch works right. Then you can add in 3,4 for the illumination light after

Thank you very much! I really appreciate the answer. That all makes sense now. I’ll give that a try and see if it will work. Love this place!

Sorry - somehow I missed the tag on this one. As @Jeff_5_7 said, the extra two wires are for the illumination circuit. Specifically, the illumination circuit will light up the symbol/lower section of the button separate from the upper part lighting up when the switch is actually ON.

Also note that powering two Baja S2 light pods off of that switch WITHOUT A RELAY is technically over the rated amperage of that switch (they are rated at 3A, while the S2 light pods are 1.7A per pod).
