Finally found a deal on a nice condition cap. Wifey thinks I should color match it, but the black is growing on me.

Looks great! The contrast is excellent. Is that the OTR paint option? If so, it looks much darker than I expected, and totally dig it.

Thank you sir! Yep it’s the OTR, it’s definitely darker than I thought (in a good way) and really happy with the finish, I like it better than some of my line-x’d things. Wanted some contrast as well as something that’ll hopefully hold up for quite a while. Welcome to the forum btw!

Your truck and cap and rack are very cool. Whose rack is that above the cab? Does that affix on the door gap or screw in on top? Thanks.

    Thnx Tom.

It’s an ARE CX with a few upgrades- carpet lining, roof rack tracks, pet screens. Nothing fancy, but it was a good deal on a very slightly used cap. Buddy had traded in his Tundra for more than he paid…

Changed up the truck a bit since my last post and the cap is still looking dope AF!

By the good graces of the Tundra Gods, my cap opens without having to swing out the spare

What are the chances of changing this thread up a bit to where we can see your inside set-ups along with the outside photos??
I'm looking to upgrade my tonneau cover to a truck cap, and seeing how everyone has their interior set up is just as important as seeing the exterior fitment.
I've looked for posts regarding this but haven't had any luck. Who knows, maybe a whole new thread needs to be started.

I'd be in favor of a new thread. "Cap/Camper Interior Photo Thread."

Got the alu-cabin installed in April. The build-out is still pretty rough.

There are sooo many things I want to do. Next up on the list is to re-build my battery system into a more permanent configuration. Right now it's in the little black/yellow storage container. Honestly that has been a really great setup and I could probably leave it in there forever. But it really takes up about 20% of my floor space or more. And I bet I could get it down to like 2% by wall mounting it underneath the water tank at the front of the cab.

The water tank is really great. I did need another kit to get it to fit in the Tundra.

The pre-wired solar was really nice. Having the t-slot everywhere was awesome too. It is odd that it's a different size rail inside the cabin vs. on the exterior of the cabin.

I'm daydreaming about turning the whole front half (from the front half of the wheel wells up to the water tank into basic storage/shelving. I want to make it out of an extruded aluminum frame.

The only thing I really don't like about the alu-cab on my track is how weird it looks at the intersection with the cab of the truck. I've seen it on the Jeep Gladiators and it's like a perfect fit. Looks great. Just looks like a weird fit on the Tundra. I have big daydreams about building a combination rack/storage space with the whole area. I think a molle panel on the front of the alu-cabin, basically behind the rear glass on the truck cab, could be really great for things like recovery gear and tables/chairs. And then there's potentially a possibility to integrate that concept into some kind of overhead storage from the overhang of the alu-cabin. I've seen some great builds where people put the spyder/equivalent rack on the cab of the truck as well. Best case scenario would be one integrated solution/product/build that did all of these things. If I really had all the time and money to blow I'd take out the rear window of the cab and use that as something useful too. It's just a liability with the alu cabin. I love the idea of a slide-out type of drawer/rack system. Kind of like what the Rivian does, but overhead-ish.

My only real complaint about the build quality is that there are some defects on the inside of my tent walls. A few thin spots and one pinhole. I'm about two hours from the people who installed it and honestly they haven't been super supportive so I didn't feel like going back to see them about it. Any time I've talked to them it's like they're annoyed, even if I'm trying to spend more money. Point of reference, I ended up spending about $3k ordering things through ok4wd because they were awesome and helpful. This is after spending about a week trying to order the same things through my local installer/vendor. The install of the cabin is great and for that I am grateful for my local vendor. Only complaint is that the roof was left with some weird residue and cardboard was stuck to it. Most importantly I've been in a lot of dusty and rainy environments and have had zero leaks!

Nice setup. How much does the cap weigh the way you have it configured?

Does it offer a bed up in the tent? Guessing you just have those boards out when you took pics.

The alu cabin itself is about 500lb. Tailgate is removed, and that's close to 100lb, so the cabin adds a net of about 400lb. Awning is about 50 lbs. Total electrical system is probably another 100 lbs. 15 gallons of water is another 125 lb. Random gear, probably 100lb or so. Fridge/freezer is about 60 lbs empty, so maybe 70-75 full. Let's see the final tally....

400 + 50 + 100 + 125 + 100 + 75 = 850 additional lbs in my build. You can definitely notice the squat more with time. Eventually I'll either get a whole new spring pack or at least add a leaf or two. The OEM leaf springs already squeak (original owner towed a boat launching into saltwater regularly), so I'm leaning towards a new leaf pack. But I'm not sure it's worth the money.

It does come with a bed in the tent. You can see in some of the photos there's enough room to stand up in the back. It's a bit of a climb to get up there. Normally keep a step ladder handy. And there's one photo with the bed platform lowered. I didn't take any good photos of the bed itself. It's nothing special. A lot of people replace the mattress. It's pretty simple and not impressive. I'd like to do that too, but for now it's way better than any ground camping I've ever done.
