    Building handrails…simple question.

smooth the welds or leave them?

That looks good to leave but on a handrail I feel if I saw it I would wonder why they skipped and didn’t smooth it out.

So that is what I was thinking. Another aspect is if a sharp edge cuts someone or snags clothing….etc.

    Thanks for your input.

Those are nice welds. I'd hit them with a wire wheel and then maybe a light touch with a flapper disc to remove the roughest edges and spatter.

We need to get a new electric cooktop. We currently have a 30 inch ge profile. Anyone have recommendations on a good reliable brand? I’ll take the good and bad experiences if you want to elaborate. The one we have now was in the house when we moved in. We are not brand specific but would like to keep it to where we can get it from a Home Depot, lowes or Best Buy preferably. Not concerned about features but a good brand. We will compare features and find one that works for us.
    Thank you

When we moved here 6 years ago, I replaced the cooktop with a Bosch Induction cooktop from Lowes. I love it.

How did the troubleshooting go on that circuit?

Electrician is coming out tomorrow. To be honest, electrical is foreign to me ( even some of the terminology )and not sure where to begin to try to troubleshoot. Probably best to leave that to the professionals. Especially 240v. After what happened, it kinda had me skittish. I have the manual for the current cooktop it calls for a 40 amp circuit breaker. I can tell you that the electrons said it was a 10 gauge wire which is rated up to a 30a breaker. The ge is 120/240v 60 Hz. Regardless if I get this one working or buying a new one, my fear is that I have a new panel, same or new cooktop and a 30a circuit ( which again, calls for 40 ). Not knowing shit lol, I just wonder if it’s only as strong as the weakest link or maybe just way over thinking this. I’m in my own head and getting in the way lol. Again, what happened was an eye opener and I just want to make sure my family is protected.

You need 8 AWG for 40 amps. You're not over thinking if the manual says you need 40 amps, your circuit is undersized.

Look at what you have existing in the panel (or been told), if you have #10 wire and 30 amp breaker then your house wiring is just that and likely cannot be easily changed so you need to work within those constraints. If your current cooktop is a 40 amp cooktop it only means it will hit that amperage if every burner is on 100%. I think it's very seldom anyone uses all the burners at the same time and seeing how you really haven't had an issue I am sure you haven't gone over the 30 amp limit on your breaker or it would have tripped. Watts divided by volts will give you amps. Think of your existing cooktop being 120/240v - the cooktop doesn't change but based on what voltage you supply it with will change how the cooktop can operate.

Not for my house, but built new cabinets for my dad’s house. Built him cabinets last year then he sold the house. He bought an older home and then wasn’t happy. He was the most supportive father I could ever ask for growing up so it’s the least I could do. He went with Alder with a natural sealer, no stain.
