might want to contact him through facebook/social media. he was pretty active within the tundra community, traveling around and doing DAPtunes for large groups. i have it and it does eliminate the rpm lag between 1-2 shifts from start

I am just waiting for someone to tune 2018+ trucks. If DAP comes through - I’ll go with it, Decatur isn’t too far away from me.

My experience was the same. After I sent him the download from the pickup he had the tune to me in hours.

I'm curious about this too. Since Shrek is overwhelmed and short staffed, it might not be possible to get answers to these questions before ordering, so I'd appreciate it if anybody could explain some of these basics. I'm an experienced car guy, but am "old." All this electronic and nanny crap is completely new to me:

    - Assuming it is VIN-locked (and that's why the process starts by downloading readings from your specific e.c.u.), is it to prevent "piracy" - like people using it on multiple trucks? If so, I could completely understand, however I'd then also like to know that I have the ability to have the tune customized if it isn't fulfilling my needs. Otherwise, it seems like I'd be stuck with something I can't re-sell to recoup some costs.

    - Is the tune basically a one-option, canned or pre-determined algorithm or collection of settings, based on most-common requests and trial and error and Shrek's experience? Or do you have the ability to request some personalized adjustments? Though user reviews are positive and sound like his code will solve most of my complains, I almost certainly will want some subtly different things than most buyers. I'd certainly like the smoother throttle response and deleting of some of the governor functions, but my drag racing days are decades behind me and I'm not interested in doing things that will add significant wear and tear. I'm mostly interested in fixing the shifting algorithm so the truck isn't hunting for gears all the time.

    - If they can or will make personalized settings, how much and what type of things can you request? At some point, I understand that you'd be talking about an entirely custom code, and that this might require additional fees. But is D.A.P able or wanting to provide this service, given their workload? I could probably make a list of hundreds of settings I'd like to adjust. With the exception of shifting though (where I probably want to make even more adjustments), most of my needs for change would probably be more subtle than those wanted by people who are primarily interested in maximizing off-the-line performance. (For instance, I might still want SOME torque management to smooth shifts when they do occur, to minimize wear and tear.)

    - At some point, am I better off getting an interface from HP tuners and learning to do it myself? I don't really feel the desire to master this and would like a starting point but, if necessary, I'd imagine that writing my own code would give me the option of playing with other "features," like seatbelt buzzers for instance, and would eliminate the need to get Techstream too, in order to do that - right?

    - What's the difference between the Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes? The website doesn't explain anything.

    - Finally: This might all be academic for now, since there's no 2018 code yet. I assume this is because factory ecu codes don't become available until 3 year warranty periods expire? If so, can we expect a 2018 option soon now that it's 2022?

    Vin locked yes

One time custom tune. He asked what mods I had. 34in tires, AFE pro dry air filter, BAMuffler, and desired rev limit. His tune improves shifting considerably. And he highly recommended 91+ octane but you can still run 87.

Stage 2 includes AFE Prodry air filter. And I would assume a slightly different tune..

2018 code is available but… The hardware interface brings the cost up to about $900-1000? But I think due to lack of interest it went away? But I’m pretty he still in person tune 2018’s

Thank you! That helps. I'm not sure I understand the 2018 hardware interface thing - I take it it's different than prior years and requires a whole new device? That's not encouraging. I can't believe there's not enough interest since, from what I gather, some of the 2018 nuances make them even less drivable than prior years. Perhaps having something to do with the advent of the collision avoidance sonar.

I've go a new grandson in Ft. Worth and need to take a trip down to Texas, but it's a LONG way and had hoped to fly rather than put the miles on my truck. Maybe this forces the issue....

DAP was THE way to go because, for the longest time, his was the only viable tune out there. Since then there are a number of options due to the rise in the Tundra's popularity. Is DAP tune still legit? Absolutely. Does he provide the best customer svc? No. Can you go elsewhere for a tune that will provide better shift points and increased HP? Yes.

I've spent more money than most at DAP :anonymous:

Last question for now. I'm sure this will illustrate my ignorance - but, if get an un-detectable, in-person tune, is there ever a risk of losing it? For instance, if you go to the dealer and they re-set your ecu due to some recall or other warranty repair, or even normal service? Don't any customized settings go away? I'd hate to waste a week of driving time + lost wages + tuning cost itself, if it's ultimately forsome ephemeral piece of code that could just disappear at some point. But unless the 2018 is offered in remote form, that sounds like my only option.

If the dealership updates your ECU your tune is gone! If I had a 2018 I’d probably look at other options?

Anytime you reflash, you write over the previous tune.

I don’t, but I know there’s a few people here that used them and are happy. I’ve emailed Dinesh to ask questions about my truck after I supercharged it. Maybe give them a call or email or check their website. I think @nobodyintexas might be able to shed some light.

From D3’s website it looks like the tuner is $600. Out of stock at the moment, but I’ve emailed asking for an ETA.

Has anyone tuned their Yundra while having a check engine light on for a P2443 code? I have the tune on the remote device and am just about to install it, but I don’t know if I should use a scan tool to reset the code first, or do the tune first. I have emailed DAP, but I don’t think they want to incriminate themselves in case it’s illegal in my state.

What is the option on engine management systems.. they are so pricey but does it make any kind sense? I have a built motor with sc. I need to add more fuel and a different spinner. I’m not sure if the system would benefit me.
