Has anyone gotten an answer from Toyota on this problem? The noise sounds bad enough that it seems only a matter of time before something is going to self destruct causing major damage to the components involved not to mention the surrounding parts. I was hoping to hear something here before taking my 2021 Tundra Crewmax Limited into Toyota and going through the usual service dept hassle.

I'm quoting this excellent post from Elduder as evidence of why I'm not worrying about the noise which I hear every so often.

Hey just joined and glad I'm not the only one hearing this noise. I have a 2020 Tundra platinum. Same noise and condition. I'm in sunny southern communist California so I don't think weather is affecting it, it's a Toyota deal and they need to resolve it.

Just took 2019 tundra in for same problem with sitting a couple of days .Doesn't happen that frequently but I'm getting documentation on problem because my factory warranty is almost out .Talked to mechanic and we assumed that possibly the reason that some people weren't hearing noise if they had ac on during starting was the initial cranking could have drowned it out maybe ?

Another quick note I haven't been driving it that much lately so it's been sitting more and the issue has been occurring more when I do start it. I wonder could it be compressor oil settling and I've read about this new freon but I can't see how that would affect it. Just guessing.

Following up after getting truck back was told couldn't duplicate.Which I told them that morning because it had to sit a couple of days usually. I showed my videos of issue but claiming basically inconclusive. All I know is I've got documentation of my concerns and that I have informed them of issue in depth with audio and video so we will see what happens .

There is TSB out on this noise. Toyota said oil accumulated in the compressor after sitting for days. When you start the compressor it has to clear the oil, or what I interpret as instantaneous hydraulocking the compressor. I found if I start the truck with the AC off and drive until idle reaches normal range and turn on AC no noise is present. Toyota races the rpm when engine first starts, which makes no sense but they do...

Awesome! Nice to see they acknowledged and assessed it. One less thing to worry about. It's seems like a generic issue which explains why I've had other vehicles do it.

What does this mean? Will I get a fix for it or do I have to inquire about it? If the truck sits for a few days and I start it without the AC button on. Then press it after it starts up. I definitely hear that grind

According to the TSB above it is normal, there is no fix since it would be normal operation. Maybe if you parked it on a steep hill it would stop the oil accumulation, would have to try it. Can either have the ac on when you start it or wait for the truck to warm up before you turn the ac on, both of those seem to work for me. my truck usually sits for 3-4 days at a time.

To avoid this noise, just don't turn the AC on as soon as you start driving. Problem solved.

If you leave the AC on low when turning the vehicle off I have found you will not hear the noise on next startup.

What do you mean by "low"? My compressor is either on or off when I'm running it. Is it possible that maybe you caught it and turned the truck off while the AC compressor happened to be either engaged or disengaged? I've also found that I don't notice it if I leave the AC on at turn off and then start the truck the next day while knobs are still in on position. Perhaps during the few cranks it sort of clears out the settled stuff and allows it to ramp up whereas when it engages on a running engine it hits it full force???

Mine does this as well almost every time if I turn on AC right after start up. Since I'm in FL, that's pretty much every time.

When I shut the vehicle down I leave the AC on with the fan on low speed. In my case this stops the unit from making that noise that happens at startup when "everything" is turned off at shutdown. I am in Florida so this "was" a daily thing. Last time I was at the dealer for service I asked if what I was doing would cause any harm and they said no.

I'm new to this thread an ironically just noticed this in my 2021 trd pro tundra. My tundra is parked for 3 to 4 days at times every week at an airport. The last two weeks, which have been very hot, I noticed after starting the vehicle, (normal) Then ac I get a loud whoosh like noise.
Everything works after an it did not do it again.
That was two weeks ago. Then again, this week, it did again, so I checked in here. I'm glad to know it's a common problem. I recorded yesterday's altho it's hard to hear. I will try an upload. After the 4th beep u will hear the noise..it's brief an much louder in person. I tried to upload butsays unable due to extension?

You should take it to your dealer and have them check it, so when a solution is made you already have it documented with a dealer.
