This is what i got. Still will take my truck to the dealer. Few months ago i had my steering wheel to turn a bit heavier than usual, then after few days went back to normal. Steering fluid level seems ok.

Well, I didn't get a rack replacement after August 5th, 2021, in fact ever, so I won't even worry about this one.

I got this letter today for my 2020 that was made 7/20 I believe. My first thought was the dealer will f*ck this up

Just got the same notice in the mail. My truck is excluded from the recall (built Sept 2020) , and I did not have my steering gear replaced on or after Aug 5, 2021. So I'm ok.

I think the 151 is the power steering pump part number, not the number of trucks that are effected.

At least that's how I read my recall notice.

I punch in 151 power steering pump for sale and I get a power steering pump.

Please verify. I'm ok being wrong.

We live in a brave new world where you are allowed a rack of whatever magnitude you desire... But dont expect it to be free.

Mine is already in the trash.

This would have been nice to know about a year ago.

Had to change my alternator. The power steering pump has to be unbolted to get to the alternator.

6 hours to change the alternator is ridiculous.

Received the notification yesterday. Only applies if you had a repair since Aug 5 2021 that replaced a part with the defective part.

Just found out I need a new Rack & Pinion. (Not related, 07, still original)

can I buy the 442500C160 off of a dealer? It’s the only one listed for my truck on my local Toyota dealers site, but also appears in the recall.

There is allot of confusion on the recall. My steering gear failed early in 2020 on my 2012 Tundra Crewmax 4x4. My understanding is Toyota noticed the issue in September/October 2021 and does not know how many defective racks are on shelves. I had the dealer check the replacement rack and it is defective and part of the recall. It's currently at Toyota for the repair. I also contacted the recall center and was informed that I "would" be reimbursed for the repair for the replacement rack. Sent in the receipts and should see a check in 4-6 weeks.

Anyone needed theirs replaced that wasn’t included in the recall? My passenger side steering rack boot is showing signs of a leak, so I’m taking it in tomorrow.

I hope you've got warrantee to cover it, or had your rack replaced between Autgust 2021 and early this year (to be covered by the recall).

Otherwise, there are some good threads on the forum with some tricks to DIY the replacement.

Crossing fingers, but looks like extended warranty is going to end up paying for itself minus $100 deductible.

They took care of it! $100 deductible. Having the recall helped because the parts were in stock. Would have been a $1,200 repair.

    Most excellent news!

Glad to hear they are taking care of you. It does not sound like a fun job to diy.

I have a 2018 SR5 CM that the original R&P has the same issue on the passenger side boot. Toyota needs to get their shit together!

Stumbled on this cause my 2017 Tundra TRD Pro with 42k miles is currently sitting at the dealer awaiting for an inspector to approve my extended warranty claim. It’s showing early signs of failing rack, oily bottom of boot. I’m kind of sweating it cause I have a 3” lift on Kings and 37s. But I wasn’t aware of this recall, is it something I need to address? The dealer didn’t mention any recall. I just told them I’d like to use the extended warranty I bought with the truck.

The recall only applies if you had a new Toyota rack installed in the period months of 2021. At least for your truck.

Thanks for clearing it up. Hoping the extended warranty gets approved. Got quoted $4500 to replace the rack. Surprised it started leaking at 42k miles.

Negativo. I have a 21 purchased and made in 11/20 which falls outside this recall's date. But at 40k miles i have big steering rack clunking and squeeling. Took it at the dealer and currently in the process of getting replaced under toyota.

I should hope they would cover this under warranty on such a new truck with low mileage, despite not technically being covered by the recall.

To anyone who has had this done somewhat recently, how long was your wait time from date of appointment to truck picked up. I am currently at 1 month at the dealership because "the recall rack is backordered".

The backorder will depend on what is needed. If it is just the rack or also the power steering pump and hoses. If it is the latter, then it would be longer as those parts have been on back order for a while.
