2nd: are the HECASAS known to be good?
I have mine plasti dipped (I had to strip and redo once) and I would rather do caps.

Like I said, they aren't perfect. They cover about 99%, but there is just a little bit of chrome showing through along a couple of edges. It doesn't bother me. I could easily fix the small uncovered areas with plasti-dip if I wanted. Eventually I'll likely get a winch bumper for the front anyway. They accomplish what I wanted to.

Having a blast with my “new” 2015 Platinum I just bought in March. Plasti-Dip is my new fun projects partner.
First dipped the chrome mirror covers and they look great. So, moved on to the badges today. They look great. The SnugTop badge in the pic looks like plasti-dip between the letters, but it dirt/grime I did not do a good job of cleaning before I sprayed. I will post another pic when I get that cleaned up. Next is the grill. Can’t wait!

My opinion on plasti-dip is that for cheap, I can immediately change the things I want. If it looks crappy I’ll remove it. If it peels I can touch it up. If it does not last, then I will get the parts painted or buy black ones. In the meantime, I spent $25 on plasti-dip.

It is amazing to me how easily the Plasti-Dip peels away from the body and keeps attached to the badges, even with the one with the letters. It is really amazing stuff!

I did my badges almost 2 years ago. You would think they came black still

So I'm ready to do the front but I have questions. We have a massive bug problem so in 10 miles I can be covered with bug massacre on the front end. Will the Plasti-Dip peel off cleaning the bugs? Is there a different way to clean them off if on Plasti-Dip?

I wouldn't mind doing the vinyl as well but what vinyl is good? There are so many kinds I'm lost in the maze.

Plasti dip is pretty tough but if you start applying too much pressure I’d think it would tear open and start rubbing off.

I use my small pressure washer with no issues but I don’t hit the dip at full force and so far it’s good.

Ordered black handles from ebay taking a chance with quality and availability. First place I ordered took my money and then when it was supposed to ship, told me they did not have any and refunded my money (AND they entered the cancellation as my request, versus them not having parts which is BS). Anyway, got the handles and installed them in 10 mins. Look great, feel sturdy. May have Chrome handles available for purchase. Please let me know if you want these. Cheap + shipping.72EBEBE0-2C8C-4C36-838B-81E3F5BFDADF.jpgCFCB74C4-4988-4778-9B1A-56CF4BB4D996.jpg

Those look great. I was lucky enough to have black handles already but still trying to get rid of all that chrome.

I plastidipped my mirror covers. Looked good but only last 6-8 months before the chrome started showing. Found a set of black covers on Amazon for $45

I thought about swapping out my door handles but with the built in sensors to lock/unlock the doors it’s a pretty big job. You have to open the inside panel then cut the plastic liner and plug and play the new handles, which aren’t cheap either, so I just decided to try using Plasti-dip.

Been like 8 months or so now and the dip is still holding up great. Also I have to admit I really like the two-tone look.

So it was just another easy dipping project. We’ll see how long it lasts.

Looks fantastic. I figure if it last 2 years then I'm happy with that. I'll take a weekend and do it again. I'd be in the same boat with vinyl or paint. It all gets abused at some point and needs a re-touch. Plasti-dip is cheap and we need cheap in these times of fuel prices.

All I need is a garage to do the plasti-dip this weekend. Without a garage it is going to be impossible because of the high winds. Someone want to bring me a garage for Saturday?

Ok I finally did it. The Chrome Delete is done! And I love it. The only trouble I had was when I put my grill back on I scratched the bumpers I had just done. So I had to do a minor touch-up on the bumper. I'd consider some smoked headlights but I don't want any of my light to be dimmed. Probably next is going to be a lightbar in the grill.

And here we are a year later. The Plasti Dip held up for the badges. As another poster said it is good for those. However, the front grill, bumper, and rear bumper don't waste your time. Some old man very slightly tapped my front bumper and the Plasti Dip peeled right off, as expected I guess. So after plenty of searching and waiting I took the Plasti Dip off and I'm re-doing the front/rear in Raptor Bedliner. I've only had this on for a day and I'm SUPER happy with the results. I stared with the fake chrome up front. I took an orbital sander with 80 grit sandpaper and roughed it up really good before applying 2 coats of self etching primer. The Raptor spray was amazing. I didn't use the rattle cans that one can buy at the local auto stores. I used the 2-part rattle cans that can be ordered.

Also, the Plasti Dip is near impossible to get off. I ended up buying a bottle of Goo-Gone from the local auto store for 7 bucks. Poured it on the Plasti Dip and waited about 5 minutes. Then I applied another coat and used the car-wash high pressure rinse and the Plasti Dip jumped right off. No problem at all The only thing to note is where did the Plasti Dip go... recently I found it went under the hood behind the lights and was everywhere. Had I known I would have sprayed all under there at that time. But still the best way to get that mess off.

Another option, I did the plasti dip to adhere to the chrome and then hit it with Rustoleum bedliner to create a protective shell. Going on a year and zero damage. I only did this on my bumper caps but it could be done elsewhere. @BlueRibbon4x4 did also used the Raptor liner but he sanded his to have a smooth paintable surface after

    @icodeintx That looks awesome.

While I love that rough bedliner look - I am trying to figure out how to treat the chrome bumper corners to best match the rest of the black ABS on the stock bumpers. Do you feel like the Raptor spray matches well or is it more rough than the plastic parts?

I've currently got matte black bumpershellz on and they're great and full-coverage. But I've come to the realization that in salt-country, this is not a good idea. Want to swap to a more permanent solution.

You can have the center plastic valance sprayed to have it match the corner caps.

I took my badges off (99% of them), blacked out the rear 4x4 TRD decals, dipped the chrome, and bought a TRD grill end hood bulge. I love the murdered out look. could never understand the 1990’s chrome everywhere. This is an old pic, lots of mods since then, but this was the day I blacked it out. IMG_0108.jpg

very nice! how'd you black out the decals? just replaced with black ones or did you do something to the factory silver ones? I was thinking of doing the same thing

I took them off, de-badged them. The 5.7 V-force badge gave me trouble removing so I just taped them off and plasti-dipped them. I broke the tabs on my original hood scoop when I pasti-dipped it and eventually bought a black one I found on “sale.” It looks good but I’ll take it to a professional next time around. I’m good at other things haha.

There is some texture to the Raptor sprat but nothing like the texture in the professional bedliners like Line-X etc. I am about to post some photos of the rear bumpers I just finished with Raptor. You can see the texture. I like it myself.
