Plenty of threads on this. There’s different Types but generally they don’t alter the existing suspension except for cutting your jounce bumper. They go between the. Frame and leaf spring. If one goes bad you won’t have jounce bumper on that side. Some come with internal bumpers so if it does go flat then it just functions like a normal truck. Look into sumo springs as well if your towing just occasionally and generally tow the same load each time.

TROLL. Just arrived home after a 500 mile trip from the Bay Area towing my 26 foot TT loaded down. 7500 lbs of easy riding rolling down the highway. Definitely the dog wagging the tail not the other way around.

Troll: I see you have modified your suspension. Your suspension has added about 300 lbs to your truck weight. And going with an off road suspension and lift kit, I'm am not surprised you trailer is wagging the tail.
That said, must trucks that add left kits and off road suspension lose some stability when towing. And I bet your hitch weight is closer to 1000 lbs. See what your tongue weight is and adjust as needed.

I’ve pulled well over the Tundra’s weight rating when I was younger and dumber, and never had any issue. I’d say something’s off like @ColoradoTJ said, so listen to the expert before doggin the Tundra bro beans.

You have 2000 lbs of cargo including hitch weight and you expect it not to squat? I tow my 5000 lb bay boat with no problems at all. Truck barely squats with 450 lbs on the hitch. My truck is leveled with stock rear.

Trade it in, you will never be happy with it. I moved from my V10 F350 to the 5.7 Tundra and other than a bit softer rear suspension have always felt it was a better tow rig.

    I have a 2019 Platinum CW,
    Same issue, rear sag.
Called General Springs and installed 5 leaf heavy duty rear springs.
I tow a 30’ flagstaff, North Carolina to Yuma AZ and back 8.7 mpg average over all.
    Hitch setup is 12K Equalizer.
    Bilstein shocks all 4 corners.
Stock suspension leaves a lot to be desired.
    Great truck!!!
Forget airbags or sumo springs, bandaids at best.

Woo! With a front living room slide , your hitch weight got to be about 1,200 lbs. How does that tow up a 7% grade?

    Tows great.
    Power was never the issue.
The suspension was always a problem.
I tried sumo springs: some people say they work, not for me. They acted as a pivot point.
I tried airbags: what a nightmare that was on a long trip, nothing but a rodeo going on there.
I almost went to a F250 after that trip.
I then started digging into spring rates.
Springs on the rear were not designed to tow.
I replaced them and all is good.
Thinking of going with bigger brakes, that will only be as a precautionary measure for long downgrades.
But regardless what you drive there’s always that long downgrade to be cautious of.
    Gotta love Tundra,,

14.5k lbs? Is that your trailer weight or the combined weight of your truck and trailer?

Uhhhh 4000 pound trailer and it’s the tail wagging the dog? You did something wrong somewhere. Did you use the same positions on your weight dist hitch as the ford?

I’ve towed weigh more than that (pun intended) and had no issues. For that light of a trailer I wouldn’t even bother with a wdh I’d just use a ball and be done

I checked them out again after reading your post, been eyeing them for some time, do you need to use a WDH with the RAS system?

WDH should still be used when indicated. RAS helps the truck handle loads better (reduce squat) by adding spring tension to the rear leafs. It does not replace the function of a WDH. I only use a WDH with my travel trailer, RAS wouldn’t replace its function there.

For a travel trailer I would absolutely get a WDH. I’ve never towed a TT. Only equipment. When pulling a giant box that can catch wind I would take all necessary precautions. You can’t put a price on safety

I’ve run both the chain style and the friction plate equalizer style WDH and really like the friction plate style better. Doesn’t need a separate sway control and feels very solid.

I used (General Springs) Heavy Duty (5) leaf on the rear. 2,500 lb rating ea.
Empty they ride just like you want without all the harshness.
Loaded, let’s just say they do their job.
Most important thing when towing is making sure your weight distribution hitch is setup correctly.

I live in the Smokey Mountains, so I travel plenty of steep grades constantly.

correction: total weight of rig is 15,200 loaded.
    Truck loaded: 7,300 lbs
    Trailer: 7,900 lbs
When properly equipped Tundra is a hard truck not to love.
Safe driving and awareness play a huge part in towing heavy as well.

    I corrected the stated weight.
    Weight is: Truck-7,300/Trailer-7,900.
Tongue weight -875 lbs, included in Truck weight.
All in all it seems to be a great setup and safe.
Nasty winds across the open plains I had no problem with.
I also NEVER drive over 62 mph.

That is one of the biggest issues I see. Drivers towing loads near or at the max capacity for their tow vehicle, and going 80mph.

That's a little heavier trailer than I'm looking to get so I'm glad to hear you have no issues.

I'll be getting myself an Equal-i-zer and getting a hitch shop to set it up for me professionally.

My wife and I were on the verge of buying a 5300 lb trailer this week and I was planning to just tow it the ~15 miles on the highway with my regular ball mount and then towing it back when I could get an appointment to get a WDH. My wife (after admitting she doesn't understand anything about this) freaked out and decided that was unsafe and we had to get a WDH first. So while the trailer was sitting on the street at the seller's house waiting for us to get an appointment at a hitch shop, it got sideswiped.

I wasn't going to comment on here since OP is long gone but it seems the thread now has a life of its own.

My RV tongue weight is about 700lbs loaded and I routinely tow it for short trips without the WDH for maintenance, loading, cleaning, etc.

It really only evens out the rake even w/o the WDH on a stock CM Platinum. Something is seriously wrong with OPs setup or suspension. And this is coming from someone that regularly dogs on the Tundras towing capacities.

Surprised nobody's brought up the benefits of a re-gear. Seems like a solution worth pursuing for anyone towing and/or rolling bigger wheel/tire combos. I'm looking into it, anyway.

I've towed plenty of times ... heavily loaded 21' toy hauler, heavily loaded 7x14 enclosed trailer, and smaller stuff. Proper load distribution + tongue weight + hitch height + air bags and I've never had any issues other than miserable fuel economy. Truck wasn't lacking for engine or braking power.
