Has anyone removed the chrome arch mouldings / fender flares on their first gen?

Been curious about removing the chrome wheel well arches on my 05 SR5 dbl cab. To be honest the profile has grown on me in that theres less lateral bulge ad a smaller tire fills the space better on this body style.. that being said the chrome i could do without.. plus, recently i noticed a bit of rust coming from underneath the chrome arches and brought it to the body shop to get an opinion.. he said thats the problem with those things, they trap dirt and salt and moisture.. he said it would be good to remove them and throughorly clean underneath them.. so then i got thinking what does it look like under there? if i removed them maybe i can just leave them off. Thought it might actually look better and possibly prevent further rusting? Has anyone else done this to their first gen? Would love to see some pictures if so. Thanks in advance.

 

im also curious if ill be able to put them back on cleanly if i want to put them back on.. other than the bolts, im assuming theres some type of adhesive?
