Dobinsons greaseable shackles

I installed the dobinsons greaseable shackles today, shoutout to @crikeymike from Exitoffroad for mentioning they were available, otherwise I might not have known. Got my shackles here in just a couple days.

They're beefier than the stock shackles, and the pins are huge! I already had the dobinsons greaseable bushings installed, I had to knock out the sleeves I initially installed to fit the shackles. I'm pretty stoked I can finally grease the top bolt of the shackle, the grease pins they had available at the time when I installed their leaf springs weren't long enough for the top bolt, and the bottom bolt was only able to accept half of a nut, so I'm happy they have a complete shackle kit available.

My only gripe is the grease zerks that are included. They're snub nose grease zerks, and no matter how hard and straight I hold my grease gun, it 90% of the grease would end up outside of the zerk. I have a brand new Lincoln grease gun, so that wasn't my issue. I ran to the hardware store and picked up some new zerks and they take grease very well.

That's weird about the zerks. All of the Dobinsons shackles use the same kind, and I haven't had anyone else report any issues. All of the Land Cruiser guys would be freaking if they couldn't grease their old 40's and 60's properly.

 

I'm not sure if it's my grease or what. I have 2 grease guns (both the same, one of them brand new) and both of them had the same issue. I even mounted the shackle in my bench vise to really test it out. But zerks are cheap so it's not a big deal to me. It may just be the tip that comes with my grease gun

This is the route I’m going. Thanks for your feedback. So do the pins replace the metal sleeve due to its size? Also these shackles provide no lift right? I am looking for no(OEM) lift shackles. Thanks!

 

Yes. The pins replace the metal sleeves. And they provide no lift (the dobinsons leaf springs provide the lift, if you're installing them)

Try greasing the pins before installation to make sure they take grease, it's easier to replace the zerks before install.

 

Very interesting! Look into the Ironman greaseable shackles as well. That's what I went with.

 

I agree the zerks are a PITA. I initially thought it was my new grease gun but after changing the zerks, they’re much better now. Glad I choose these shackles though to replace my CB +2. It allowed enough space for my full size 35” spare.
