Hey ya'll. Looking for a way to mount jerry cans (scepter MWC's) to a bed rack. Any ideas? Do any of the standard cheapie jerry can holders fit scepter cans?

    Thanks!

I know rotopax exist, but these scepter military cans are so damn durable, which I hear might not be the case for rotopax (though I've no firsthand experience with them).

Can't answer your question but you could have a fabricator bend some metal for ya. My concern is that's a LOT of weight to put on a rack and I'd be wary about weight that high also. I carry 2-3 Scepter 5 gal. cans with water and keep them mounted in the bed, behind the cab. The plastic jerry's seem to bulge out and not fit the standard mounts.

Thanks. Makes sense, don't have the bed rack yet, so not sure how sturdy they are or aren't.

Do you use a standard jerry can holder for yours?

I've used ratchet straps up against the front of the bed box 'til now. I'm in the process of fabricating my own mounts.
On my last trip to Baja one guy had a Voodoo bed rack, it didn't survive the first day and it was only carrying 2 sets of traction boards.

There's way more to the story. Don't think our racks are weak because of that post.

This is why I hate the internet.

The rack that he was talking about was an old version (not as strong as the racks we have now), and it was absolutely thrashed.

One of the side panels broke, most likely due to the bed twisting all over the place. The owner of the rack contacted us a while back and we replaced it under warranty (even though it was waaaay out of the warranty period, and he was not the original purchaser).

Now, fingers crossed they ordered the right model and choices, but I sent them screenshots so I would hope they did.

Yeah, there's more to the story. The way some of us drive in the desert, things just break, it's to be expected.

Rago fabrication makes rail accessory mounts that reach down to the bed (if you buy the extenders). I picked up a couple and plan to mount my Wavian Jerrys that way. The weight of the can sits on the bed so the bed rail is not taking all the weight - it’s pretty much just keeping the can in place.

I picked up a couple of these Wavian Jerry can holders that would bolt to the Rago rail mounts:

That’s awesome you did that. Major props :hattip:. I’ll be sure to keep that in mind next time I need rack accessories

Did you ever get the Jerry cans mounted with this combo? Curious to see how it turned out. I want to mount one of the water containers this way for my hunting setup.

I haven’t had a need to use the jerrys yet, so no I haven’t mounted it yet. I can throw them on for ya real quick some time this week though. …feel free to ping me if I forget.

Does it need the bed mat to be able to rest it’s weight on the bed? Looks good!

Not sure if this is still on your radar. Just as you mentioned Rotopax -

FWIW I have 2, I mount on my atv & never had an issue with them, have had them now for about 6 yrs. 2 x 3 gallon cans, & they get beat on when I’m bushwhacking.

This is how I have mine setup for now. I had the gas can and holder up front where I got my traction boards. I now have traction boards mounted to the brackets. I got a molle panel to attach some other stuff to. I need to 7EE2858E-C5BA-463F-A2A8-149E508BB6F1.jpg reorganize it. The molle panel and the other mounting bracket’s are from Victory 4X4.
