Found the secret remote start on this site and it worked. Toyota just wanted to hold your truck for a couple of hours and then come out and say ok it’s ready we just need a 1000 dollars. Press lock 2 times then hold the lock down seems like it took like 6 to 10 seconds before it started and the truck shut off when the door was opened. And then one time the door stayed locked.

If any Toyota folks are watching; why would Toyota do this? I asked the specific question of my salesman, and he said there's no remote start. If I were to find out otherwise after having paid for Toyota to install a control unit that's already there, there would be legal and brand impact consequences for the dealership. SMH - - bad way to start things off for new, otherwise enthusiastic truck owners.

    THANK YOU for the information!

So bought a Pro last night and this worked fine at the dealership, but once I got it home - it no longer works. I’m wondering if you have to have an active Remote Connect subscription for it to work because I’m having issues getting my Remote Connect to work.

My wife's Lexus has remote start. The 3rd click hold has to be a long time. 10 seconds or more. Let us know if you get resolution.

That’s what I’ve been doing, did it at the dealership three times no problem - after I bought it and they reset everything it doesn’t work. Do you have Remote Connect set up on your truck? Because I honestly think you have to have remote connection set up for it to work, and at the dealership they have all those options turned on.

Weird. There’s no subscription or anything like that. It’s the factory installed Toyota remote start. Time to have them fix it next time you go in.

Well, we were also looking at the Lexus RX for my wife - which has remote start built in - but they make you pay an $8 per month subscription to use it.

Do it quick that’s how mine worked and hold down on the 3 click. Yea I think they want to make more money with the cell subscription. I still might sign up. Also wondering if you cancel the service if the key start will work.

The RX has remote start built in, and free. The $8/mo. is for the 'connect' service, or whatever they call it, to send data and receive commands from your cell phone. You can remote start it from the remote forever; and for the $8/mo, you can remote start it from 1000 miles away. It'll come with the service for a year or something, and pay after that. There's also a concierge service with a live human at the end of a button, and IIRC that comes with your $8/mo. as well.

I'm learning my salesman was just plain wrong about the remote start, and at least the Platinum and 1794 come with that standard.

Interesting, I asked the Lexus salesman if the remote start would work from the key fob without the subscription and he was absolute in saying no. At the same time, no one said my TRD Pro came with it, and it does. So the Platinum, 1794, and TRD Pro all come with it standard.

My 2020 Limited Tundra does the remote start with the three clicks as well. Shuts off when you open the door.

Toyota told me that the first of Jan this year they changed the way they do the registration. Mine worked at the dealers until they set it up for me to take delivery. I should have tried it there and then dang it! They are supposed to call me about this issue.

I've installed the Toyota mobile app then uninstalled it. It seems the remote feature no longer functions. Could the uninstall be factor? Are there weather considerations for the remote start to function or does it just work with 3 locks on the fob?

You have to have at least one of the connected services active for it to work, depending on which model you have, and which audio package you have - the trial period for Service Connect is 10 years. The PDF I found from Toyota does not have the 1794 listed, so I'm not sure where it falls in.
