Haha! I think the funny thing is when we are talking Gen specific, bumpers or something, and someone jumps in with their new super-bitchin Gen 2 bumper pic. But things like lights and winches and compressors are so universal, it's hard to poke fun on that kind of input...

I agree. You know, like a rake is a rake. ;)

So many later gen guys don’t even know that the differences between 1st and later gens require completely different mods— it is a hassle though, that 1st gen threads get filled with stuff that doesn’t pertain to our trucks at all. Uh, what’s the point of sub-forums….

If there were more of us, I suppose we could post our 1st gen specific mods in all the later gen threads…. But I’m not sure there’s enough of us, they’d even notice.

This ^ a lot. I have the M18 leaf blower and it will drain a fully charged battery in no time. I'm betting the air compressor will as well. M18 batteries, even the big dogs, just don't seem to have the duty time for some tools.

If you go for a portable I would just get a Viar that runs off your truck battery. I have one and it works fine, I think it was around $375. If you're just using it to pump your tires up here and there then a full time system is overkill. Unless you're on trails all the time you won't need it.

The suggested bundle includes a pump up fire extinguisher. Must be a hotshot thing...just add tactical nomex.

Sometimes I wonder if the 2/2.5 Gen ppl frustrated the 1st Gen owners as much as some of the 3rd gen comments anger me.

I wouldn't mind a 2nd gen, but having a transition gen would bother me after considering it a 3rd gen for so long. :D

I saw a comparison on youtube comparing the ARB twin cylinder to the NAPA Maxi twin cylinder. The maxi won and was a third of the price! Both were under hood mounted.

Main difference and something important to check out are the duty cycle ratings. I couldn't find anything definitive on the Maxi but a couple forum posts I came across said it was 15 mins on that one. The ARB has a 100% duty cycle rating.

I know ARB is considered the gold standard. The test was to air up 4 tires to 37 lbs. In the test, Maxi was less than 5 mins were the ARB was 12 if I remember correctly.

Ambient temperature comes into play too in this equation. That 15 minute duty cycle and fill time is in perfect conditions (72 degrees), and will likely be less if you're in the desert. Not trying to knock the NAPA compressor (haven't looked into it at all TBH), but this is an important consideration.

Isn’t that like moving from Canada but instead of joining the mainstream with us down south you move to Greenland?

Just a question , but don't these get really hot when used, and under a seat on carpet , isn't that kinda dangerous? And other question , how do you get to the fuses?

    It's good
They get hot at the manifold, where the air comes out. Hotter than you want to touch but with even minimal clearance, it's not starting any fires. Maybe if you ran it for hours, and even then probably not. I've done several air downs and up, and run air tools. It's not a problem but don't lay a pillow on it.

The fuses are under the hood by the battery.
