So I was at a local tire shop and saw these today.. me and the wife both have nokian winter tires which are very good. Shop tech said these just came out.. Nokians first AT tire. I think they look pretty badass. Looks like there's cool tech in the tread pattern and sidewall construction as well.. relatively light too! Thought I'd post em up here in case anyone's neds new shoes and looking for something new to check out. They were very reasonably priced at Kaltire here in bc Canada (about 50- 100$ cheaper per tire than other comparable tires).. plus a 50$ promo discount if you buy 4 and get them installed.

    Theyre called Nokian Outpost AT

Btw, I'm not a salesman, nor do I work at kaltire or for nokian lol just thought these were cool and wanted to share with people who could appreciate.

    curious what you guys think..

k there got it.. not sure what is going on, but when i try to post something on this site from my phone, the screen just starts jumping around and rearranging my post like every two seconds. it cuts up what im typing and spreads it waaaaaay out... pretty frustrating.

anyhew, i think these look really cool. As for aesthetic, my only critique would be the lettering and numbers.. way too plane jane.. hopefully they work on that. Check out the bridging between the shoulder blocks.. the tech said that helps squirm on the road and helps minimize uneven wearing. Something called aramid fiber in the sidewall construction. 100 000km tread warranty. shop guy said theyve put a bunch of sets on and so far really good reviews, but ya thats first impressions.. will have to wait to see how they hold up and perform over time. Theres a cool promo vid on you tube.

Looks like a knock off of actually good tires. Falken Wildpeak AT3 comes to mind:

Or maybe Les Schwab Open Range:

Looks like a Chinese knock off, and yeah, I know that some Falkens are made in China. It is even rumored that Falken and the Open Range are made by the same company and branded different for the two companies. I have had both. My F250 has the Open Ranges and the Tundra has the Falkens. The Falkens were cheaper. The treads are a little different but I can't tell the difference between ride, handling and smoothness between the two tires.

    Nokian makes some quality tires.
Yeah they look a lot like other AT tires, I was thinking the Toyo AT2. But, there's probably only so many ways to make an AT tire. Currently made in Finland, soon to be made in USA.

I put AT Nokians on my wife's Highlander and they are fantastic... I hope these perform as good as they look, cause I think they might be my next truck tire!

I would be interested in how they wear. Sounds like they might be a good tire.

thats what the shop owner said.. he just put them on his work truck. Something i noticed was that the tire overall was much softer / more pliable to the touch than the KO2 and the nitto ridge grappler that were there.. not sure if thatll play out as a good thing or not.. we'll know soon enough. good tread warranty though..
Nokians are a company out of Finland. They make some good tires, especially winter tires. Here in the canadian mountains, many many people run their factory studded tires like the hakkapeliitta series, which are what i have, awesome tires. Shop guy said theyve been developing these for a few years.. and ya, i hear ya about taking from others R&D, but thats what all the companies are doing. I like that theyre addding theyre own flare design wise and bringing something fresh. I just bought some new wildpeaks actually, which will be my first time with them; By the time theyre done there will be some real world data on these outposts to see if theyre the real deal.
    I definitely like the look.

Good looking tire. They look like a more aggressive outer tread than the Falken WP. 60k treadwear is impressive for an AT.

Nokian certainly knows how to make snow tires, curious to see how these hold up in rocks and such.

Usually it is a good idea to at least have the slightest knowledge about what you are posting.

Nokian makes absolutely fantastic tires and they have for a very long time. They just don’t have a very large footprint in North America.

As to the OP being told this is Nokian’s first AT tire that is not the case.
Nokian has had their Rock Proof and Rotiiva AT Tires for years.

And they make them in 275/60/20!!!
This could very well be my next set unless Michelin gets their act together and finally brings us a more aggressive tire than their current offering.

Those Falken look like knock offs of General Tires

And Generals definitely look like BFG knock offs
    bfg_allterrain_ta_ko2_full.jpg

Let's all just roll BFGs from now on. No more alternatives.

Jokes aside if you really look at tires you'll see a lot of similarities. They all borrow or are inspired by the competition, or even by their own sister companies. A lot of tire companies are connected at the root.

Did you compare the Nokian Outpost AT to the Falken Wildpeak, KO2, or Toyo AT3? I am looking for an all terrain tire that looks aggressive but is relatively quiet on the highway as my Tundra see's only pavement and the occasional dirt road. My nearest Kal Tire dealer is an hour away and my local dealer doesn't stock the Nokian Outpost but can get them. They did have the Rotiva. I have had Nokian winters on three vehicle and they make an exceptional winter tire.

Looking for a rugged looking, quiet all terrain tire and am leaning towards either the Nokian Outpost or Toyo AT3 based on weight and internet pictures. I will get to a Kal Tire dealer to compare at some point but looking for your opinion or anyone's that has actually seen or is currently using the Nokian Outpost.

    Thanks,

    Budge

I never claimed any knowledge about the Nokian. If I did then please point me to it. Someone in a later post said they were a good tire and I accepted that at face value. Aren't you the one that railed against Falkens because they were made in China?

    (emphasis mine)

Are you suddenly a fan of China?

You referred to them as knock offs of actually good tires and then
You referred to them as Chinese knock offs. Chinese knock off equates to a crap version of something.
Not sure why you are referencing China in regard to Nokian.
Or insinuating they are not actually good.

Nokian is not a Chinese company. They are Finish and now have a plant in the US where these are to be made.
Their passenger vehicle tires are only made in Finland, Russia, and their newest plant in the US.

Yes, if these Nokians were made in China I would be equally as pissed and not buy them.

So I am a bit confused as to why giving accolades to Nokian for the tires they have been producing for years has anything to do with me becoming a fan of Chinese tires.

And also be clear I railed against the Chinese made Falkens and not Falkens as a whole.
I have owned a few sets of non Chinese Falkens and they were great tires as I have stated when they were at a lower price point compared to others in their class which unfortunately they are not anymore.

Is this your post where you said:
"Usually it is a good idea to at least have the slightest knowledge about what you are posting."

Nokian actually makes tires in China. You skipped that part. It is apparent that you have done some research so why did you fail to mention that a large part of their tires are made in China while redirecting with a half truth. I would give you a piece of advice:
Usually it is a good idea to at least have the slightest knowledge about what you are posting.

My question is, did you not know what you were talking about or did you just avoid some facts?

    From the Nokian web site:

NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-28 September 2004-Nokian Tyres plc to start contract manufacturing in China(C)1994-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Finnish tyre manufacturer Nokian Tyres plc said on Tuesday (28 September) that it had signed a contract manufacturing agreement with the Chinese tyre producer Giti Tire (China).

Under the agreement, Giti Tire would start to contract manufacture car tyres in its factories in China.

The cooperation would start with Nokian branded car summer tyres which would mainly be sold in North America. The production would start in October 2004.

The target for 2005 is 500,000 tyres, but would gradually be increased up to 1.5 million tyres, the company said.

Looks like you are correct in regard to their summer tires and did not realize those were made there but I have not paid too much attention to them.
But regardless I said it in the last thread have said it in this thread. I rail only against the specific product being made in China not an entire company that may have manufacturing in China. It is not a quality thing. China makes a whole lot of crap no doubt but they do make some quality things. If I have the choice for something not to be Chinese even if it is a bit more expensive I pay more. I realize that somethings we are just stuck with Chinese produced only options.

So back to the Outpost hopefully being a new worthy opponent in the AT tire game.

Hey apologies for the late response.. ive been on a family trip and forgot my laptop power chord.. this site just wont behave on my phone for some reason. i can view but not post, that happen to anyone else?

Anyway, regarding your question.. when i first layed eyes on these nokians i had already ordered a set of tires, so they werent considered.

I did A LOT of AT tire research.. and of all the options i was aware of, the Falken Wildpeaks were what i chose based on all my considerations and preferences. (Second choice would have been general grabbers.. they sounds really good but i dont think they look as cool as the falkens).
That being said if i was aware of these, im not sure what i would have done.. i think they look really good, very aggresive, and i know nokian makes good tires.. plus theyre new, different / fresh.. and theyre cheap right now. Really stoked to try my wildpeaks, and will be paying attention to the nokians for next time.
If youre looking to buy some tires you should definitely check them out. Watch that video i posted near the top of this thread. gets into the tech.. sounds like they put a lot of emphasis into reducing rolling resistance and road noise.

So.. In the end, has anyone actually installed these on a Tundra yet?
I'm considering them in the P rated stock size for my '18 SR5. I will not go to a LT tire again (see below).. My truck sees about 90% highway and 10% dirt, grass, mud. We have 45 acres and I pull a couple trailers a year. I love the look of these, but really don't want a overly loud tire. I understand a AT tire will be louder then the stock tires that come on the truck. So where the balance between (somewhat) aggressive looks with a little off road ability and tire noise?

I previously had Goodyear Duratracs on a 2012 Nissan Frontier in the stock size but C rated LT. They where horrible.. Quite at first, but after 5000km, so noisy I could not hear a passenger speaking at normal volume, and scalloped badly. Yes I adjusted the tires pressures for the LT rating. After I sold that truck to my dad when I got my Tundra, he ended up changing them out with still 3/4 of the tread left. He (and mom) could not handle the noise..

Awesome looking tires, thanks for sharing, I will definitely check them out when I’m ready for new tires.
