I bought my first Toyota over the weekend! 2005 Tundra DC limited. Its missing the remote so for now I'm using the key to unlock it. The previous owner explained to me that using the drivers side lock cylinder does not unlock all the doors. The passenger side works as it should, when the key is inserted into the door and turned it unlocks all four doors. When I use the drivers side it only unlocks the drivers side door. I also cannot use the unlock button on the drivers side door panel until I put the key into the ignition. Another strange thing is that if I use the key to unlock the drivers side door open it, close it again and wait about a minute without starting the truck, when I open the drivers side door it sets the alarm off.

The guy I bought it from explained to me that the first owner had installed an aftermarket alarm. He said he didn't like it so he removed it. He said that there were some "resistors" in the door panel left over from the aftermarket alarm and if I removed them it would probably solve the issue. I think the "aftermarket alarm" he was talking about was actually a remote start, because there is some sort of transmitter up by the rear view mirror.

I pulled the door panel off today to find that the "resistors" he was talking about were actually diodes. it looked like some sort of relay had previously been installed in the door panel. I cut the diodes out and re spliced the wires that go to the window/lock control panel. This unfortunately did not fix the issue. Anybody have any ideas on what could be wrong?

Check the build link in my signature.
Could be a faulty switch. Could be wires butchered from the aftermarket install.

you can hit the wiring diagram thread (in my signature) and download the EWD for the 2005, then chase out the door lock schematic to confirm everything is connected as expected and chase continuity in the wiring. From there, check the door lock switch (not sure if it’s part of the master window switch in the ‘05 or not).

    1 or 2... I lost count
I can't answer all your questions, but, when I had my 04 in high school I had to turn the key in the driver's door twice (just like you have to on most keyfobs) to unlock all the doors. No idea why it was this way, but, just like you said the passenger door would unlock all the doors with only one bump.

Side note: I think it could be 50/50 on the transmitter/receiver near the rearview mirror. Many aftermarket alarm systems also do not reuse the factory remotes so it could easily be either.

I went out this morning and turned the key twice, it worked! lol. I wonder if that would have worked before I fixed the wires heading to the switches. Thanks for all the quick replies.

Same on my 18. 1 turn unlocks the driver, 2 turns unlocks all. 1 turn to the left will lock them all.

Possibly but suppose we'll never know. Speaking of 1st Gen only, "turning key twice in succession will unlock the driver’s door and passenger’s door simultaneously" is normal according to Owners Manual.

I think its one of those safety things. You dont want anyone you dont know getting in the truck with you. So it only unlocks your door. If you have other guests you turn it twice and they can all come in.
