Went out on a 1.5 day out of Seaforth. Scratched a few smaller ones (under 50#) and by the end of the trip, had maybe 20+ on the deck. I hung two 90 pounders.

Thats a good day on the water. those 50#ers are so delicious you could eat them on the ride back to the dock. Those 90#ers will fill the freezer and give you some great meals. Congrats

I had a 90 pounder last month. Now with two more, it's gonna be a bit of an issue fitting it all. And I have another trip in mid-May and one in mid-June. My neighbors and friends are gonna love me.

Looks like a lot of fun, may I ask what it costs for a charter like this? Sure there’s a lot of variables

Just switched my 6/17 trip to 7/1 on the Excel, 2-day. One spot left. If anyone here grabs it, you know what I look like.

Luckydog - about 30-40 mins for each of my 90 pounders.

Cost depends on length of trip and the boat. A 1.5 day (left Friday night, back Sunday morning), is anywhere from $400-$475, depending on boat. Occasionally, they charge a little extra ($25-$50/person) right before leaving for fuel if there's a significant increase in gas prices. Galley tab depends on how much you decide to eat and drink. I think I had a bfast burrito, a burger (friend paid for my dinner), with maybe one bottle of water (I brought a bunch of my own) and my galley tab was $25?? I tipped out for about $80. I took both fish home whole, and processed at home, filet, cut and vacuum sealed. So full cost:

    Trip - $450
    Galley and tip - $105
Dinner on Friday night at the dock - $20
    Ice - $18
Gas - $120 (LA to San Diego and back)
    TOTAL - about $700

If you do a 2-day, it's about $600-$700, i usually leave Friday night, back Sunday NIGHT. You get way more fishing in, go further out (Cortez or Tanner bank for the really big boy tuna and other species), and only additional cost is galley tab because you will eat and drink more.

BUT....I probably have about $5,000 worth of sushi grade fish in my freezer...about 8-9 grocery store bags full of vacuum sealed packs of meal sized bluefin tuna. I trade some of it with a local seafood wholesaler who sells at farmers markets. I trade for salmon and shellfish. Not a bad deal for me.
