Hey guys! Honestly this site is amazing! Just need to know which amp will work with my 16’ tundra DC. I’m eventually replacing the head unit. But need to know what is the best fit for the door speaker amp. I bought 4 alpine door speakers to replace the factory ones. This is a non jbl system. thanks a lot!

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! You will likely get a much better response if you post this question in the Audio & Video forum.

Any amp will work if it has enough power. Choosing an amp is like buying a computer....all personal preference. I actually have a Pioneer 4 ch that I am no longer using.

Will you be adding a sub down the road? If so, I’d get a 5 channel to avoid having to run two amps.

Definitely do what @AZBoatHauler said and get an amp that'll handle all your needs for mids & subs. I have 2 but only because I won my subs & amp from @tech12volts then went back to him for my underseat amp replacement.

awesome! So I just bought a 5 channel amp. And now it’s time to add head unit and subwoofer. However. Where will I be getting the signal from if I want to get rid of the factory amp. How to tell which wire is what?

You’ll get the signal from the new HU but you’ll need to sort out the speaker wiring from the OEM amp. Hit up James from https://shop.tech12volts.com/ for some plug and play harnesses to make it as easy as possible.

Taco Tunes has a harness that connects their amp to the factory harness. I modified it to connect my JL Audio amp. I'm sure there's a better way but I already had the harness (ditched their amp because it was crap).

Excellent! So that plug n play harness goes directly from the old amp to the new ? And I can’t find it on tech12volts. Can you add the link?

No, it plugs into the harnesses under your seat (the ones you disconnect from the OEM amp) and spits out speaker wire pig tails to connect to the new amp. Old amp gets removed.
You’ll probably need to call him to order, I don’t think he lists the harnesses on his online store.

sounds like you haven’t done this before - running the new power wire will be the biggest challenge. The rest is sorting out and plugging in wires.

Ok nice. So I believe it’s the same concept as autoharness.com he has a 10 and 12 pin. That should work as well right? As long as

Yeah. I’ve done this a couple times. However this whole factory amp is new. I’m an up and coming electrician. So it’s all fairly new. The first car I did had no amp and plenty of room for speakers to fit and was extremely simply. This time it’s space problem in the doors. Subwoofer space. Product availability and simply the knowledge to where I pull the actual signal from. I may be making it harder than it seems.

I think this is the case. Your new HU will provide the signal, ideally via RCA cables. Order a Maestro wiring harness to integrate your new HU to your existing in-dash harnesses (the ones you’ll unplug from your OEM HU).

Got it. Thanks so much for your help. I’m gonna give it my best shot. Just ordered the harness for the aftermarket amp and gonna get the maestro they offer when I purchase the head unit.

Cool. Be sure to buy the Maestro RR unit (whatever latest version they have) in addition to the wiring harness to be able to use your steering wheel controls.

and if you want XM with the aftermarket HU you'll need a tuner and adapter cable to use your stock XM antenna
