Starting to pull together all the parts for the new truck so I'll be ready when it finally gets here. I've always used Truxedo covers on my Toyota trucks ... I love the convenience of just rolling them up.

But with the Tundra (and a few new hobbies) I'm considering moving to a hard flip-type cover to provide a level of security for the stuff in the bed. I'm curious how susceptible to scratches the BacFlip MX4 'smooth' surfaces are. I looked at an Undercover Armor Flex over the weekend and the LINE-X treatment to the flat services certainly looks durable.

The dealer I spoke with sells many many more BackFlips than any other cover and I like the 4 panels vs 3 with the Undercover ... I'm concerned about blocking the brake light with 3 panels. With the digital mirror I'm not concerned about seeing out the back.

Has anyone had experience with durability of the BacFlip over time. It's just a cosmetic issue ... but!

    Thanks,

First, Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! I researched hard tops and settled on the Undercover Armor. I checked out the Bakflip but found a few videos, including a couple from professional installers, indicating that Bakflip does not honor their warranty very well. My Undercover Armor is not as well built as y hard top on my old truck, but that company is no longer in business. I have now found and bought a used Diamondback SE. From what I have seen and heard, it checks all the boxes and is of much higher quality.

Save a few hundred bucks and get the Gator. They are the same as the Undercover (literally the exact same thing) just a bit cheaper.

I ordered the Gator and an Undercover arrived in a Gator box. I called to let them know as I was worried if I needed something under warranty I would have issues as my receipt said Gator but the cover was an Undercover.
They said no issues it is the same and they’ll take care of it if there were to be issues. They literally just put different stickers on them.

I have an Undercover ArmorFlex on my 21 and have been very happy w/it. So far, it has held up very well; maintained proper alignment w/the tracks, etc. (so it closes and secures as it's suppose to); and no issues w/ top surface scratching or marring. It has performed as expected. I haven't beat it up, but I haven't babied it either. Good luck!
