Well, my wife killed her first turkey WITH HER FACE. Hen came flying up over the side of the interstate. Hit my wife in the head and the bird died in her lap.

My Mrs is a little scratched up, pulling all kinds of tiny glass pieces out of her hair still, face scratched up, turkey goo everywhere. Thankfully she’s ok though!!

Tow truck driver tried telling me he thought they’d total it since all the glass fragments down in HVAC and every inch of the vehicle has pieces of it. I think he’s wrong. ‘18 Limited with 50k on the clock.

    Anyone experienced that before?

Happy to hear that your wife is ok. That could have been very traumatic. I do not think by any stretch that that will be totaled. Cleanup nightmare, yes, totaled No.

Wow. I have seen a few photos of this sort of thing happening. Usually grilles though. Glad your queen is ok.

I'll take front window tint for 200.00 Alex.....

Damn. Glad she is ok, but I seriously doubt they'd total it. The whole dash and all the venting could be replaced for way less than what it's worth at that mileage.

Wow! That’s wild. Happy to hear she is ok! I seriously doubt it’s totaled. It will not be cheap to go behind the dash and clean it out. But not totaled.
You should share this story with Steve Rinella over at the Meat-eater podcast! They will feature it on the show. Again, happy to hear she is ok.

Glad your wife is ok. Reminds me of a time dude came into work covered in blood and feathers. Turkey flew into open passenger window at just the right angle. B-piller popped it open and it exploded inside the truck.

Wow. Just wow. Glad she wasn’t hurt. Some people would be traumatized by that. Hope she can just laugh it off, because a dash cam 360 video of that would go viral.

Holy crap...am glad she is okay. Saw a Cadillac at the insurance office once that had slammed into a flying goose. Didn't go entirely through the windshield though.

That looks scary. I hit a large bird with my Jeep Wrangler years ago. It was dark and rainy and I never saw where the bird came from. It hit the windshield at about 55mph right in front of my wife's face, but did not break through the glass. It did leave a hole, but not large enough to get through. She got hit with a bunch of shards but was not injured. I stopped and looked at the bird but it was so beat up I could not identify it. Since it was night I assume it was an owl. That turkey weighs several times more than a large owl. That mass is probably why it came through the glass.

Not totaled. The whitetail mafia has a hit out on me. The most recent attempt was a doe that jumped up on my truck while I was driving. Nearly came through the windshield at my face. Damage to the driver's door, fender, hood and cab top. Glass everywhere inside the truck. 2007 with 134000 miles. Insurance fixed it.

I had a friend in college whose mom hit a turkey at 80 mph dead center of the windshield. Looked like the turkey had swallowed a bomb, the hit turned it into a red mist and coated her and the inside of the car - she wasn't hurt but it was bad day. It was a 2012 Dodge 1500, pretty sure they ended up stripping the interior and replacing everything cloth.

Glad your wife made it out okay, looks like most the bird made it through the windshield so I bet it was a hard hit.

Yikes! Glad she's ok. I doubt they'll total the truck. It'll just be a big clean up job.

I hit a goose with my truck once. Got it in the grille, not the windshield though. I was actually on the phone with a family member when it happened. Stupid bird jumped from the ditch and flew straight across the road and thump, right into my grill. The phone call went something like:

"Holy shit, I just hit a goose!"

"A moose!? Oh my god, are you ok??"

"I'm fine. It was a goose, not a moose."

    "Oh. What? A goose?"

"Yeah, you know. About 2 feet tall, grey and black, feathers, bad attitude. Also known as a cobra chicken."

    "Did it do any damage?"

"Broke a couple pieces of my grille"

    "Is it dead?"

    "Yeah, sure is"

    "Good. Stupid goose"

Gota call in the "Cleaner"! Seems a little phobic that nothing should have a little character out of the norm that you can't identify. Loan your vehicle to your teenager and see what happens.

WOW,, glad the wife will be alright. Had a friend hit a big Tom like that and the same friend literally had a pheasant fly thru the driver’s open window and smack him in the head and then raise havoc in the truck he was driving loaded for the days run!! Hoping the best for the Sequoia too.

    Update:

For 3 days, she was pulling shards of glass out of her hair, but I think they’re all out now.

The bird didn’t go to waste. It may have won the battle, but we won the war. Unfortunately, it was an expensive war to win!

Verdict is still out on what insurance is going to do. They’re got to do some preliminary scrubbing to determine just what all has to be replaced inside.

If she wouldn’t have minded, I would have put a picture of her face up. She had feathers, blood, and goo all over her. Looked like she’d just come back from riding in a war party.
She did say she was pretty nervous to get back on the interstate a couple days later, but she’s all good now. The guy following her said, “She’s got some real composure. We saw it hit and then she put her blinker on and got over without affecting anyone else. She must be a good driver!” Haha
