This was my first thought. I work for a government corporation and am on salary, but my overtime is paid hourly at 2x. I only do 1.5 hours of OT per day on average, but at 20 - 30 OT hours per week, I could quickly get near the level this chief pulled in.

I think we work similar industries, though I'm on the construction side. Hydro-electric?

    Exactly.

You sure do put in the hours. Damn. If I have to do 15hrs overtime I get cranky. Lol

I do 14 days on, 7 off. 10 hour days, paid for 9.5 (unpaid 30 min lunch). It's pretty slack compared to when I was in oil/gas, there I'd work a month straight averaging 12 hours a day.

I run a combined cycle power plant. We do have 6 hydro plants in our portfolio though. They only generate 30 MW, but it is good renewable power. I’ll take all we can get.

    Well that makes sense now.

I work 5/2 or 5 months out of the year after vacation. :anonymous:

I guess being abused as a child isn't in vogue now. Addicted to painkillers must be the one that plucks at the heart strings. What an evil woman she is.

That's not bad at all. I get 15 days vacation, plus another 17 days of what they call "reduced work week days" but I can take those a bunch at a time so I guess it works out to 32 days of paid vacation a year. Government employment is totally fucked and the main reason taxes are too damn high, but if I don't grab it someone else will.

Lots of missing information. How big is the dept? If he had no one on the street due to sick outs then he should be paid for covering the shift. If a crime occurred and it was found out the town was not protected it would have been on him. I'm willing to bet someone other than him knew he was working those hours.

BTW, patrolman in some nj towns are making almost 200k without OT.

My problem is the lack of comms coming from his part. If it is all legitimate work on his behalf then show the evidence. If he was literally working that much OT then he should have proof knowing full well that there would be questions asked.

As a Chief, he deals with the optics of the department's use of resources. For a municipality of 4,300-4,400 and a budget of approximately $4M he knows there isn't a bottomless pit of money to pull from for "personnel matters" (the mayor pro-tem's words).

The whole thing stinks of BS and he's done nothing to explain it. He threatened the commissioner when confronted. Tells me all I need to know.

Yeah, pretty much sums it up.

"You want me to do what? Umm, ok. And you'll pay HOW much?! Umm, is that allowed? Yes? Uuuhhh, sure. I'll take it."

I see your point. Is the mayor siding with the chief? The towns financial records are public information and should be easily obtainable. An OPRA request would explain how it happened.

My best years financially all coincide with extraordinary events. Terror attacks, natural disasters or pandemics.

In all those cases additional personnel were required at a time when staffing was compromised. The answer was lots of overtime for whoever wanted it.

I wasn't always a teacher. Did a stint in O&G as a grunt on the floor. I know about OT as well as the next guy and I'm all for those who deserve it to get it.

Knew a guy who was a lineman and he was always buying new truck shit when bad weather came lol the guy made bank but he deserved it.
