I needed to wax my board - it started getting sticky and slow. We left about 2:30.

Either you took those pics fairly early or there was a very small crowd! That snow looks amazing!

There were very few people all day, but those pics were about 10am
The only “line” at the lift all day was the one lift that serves the terrain parks - and that was maybe 4-5 chairs worth of waiting and even then it was sporadic.

One day I hope to be rich enough to fly up and ski on the spur of the moment, to take advantage of these situations. But at the rate I'm going, I'll likely be the oldest one on the slopes - by FAR! If only there was good skiing within a couple hour drive from the Alabama Gulf Coast!

You gotta commit. I grew up very close to where you are. I love casually mentioning that Alabama has a “ski resort” and the reactions I get.

The problem is that I have "committed" to other things and it's too late to back out without severely impeding both my wife's career and mine.

That's fair. Might have to wait a bit and then get a mountain home later.

I just hope one of my kids gets a job in Denver or Salt Lake. Both have great skiing and we would have a place to stay.

When it gets warm the micro layer of water on top of the snow creates suction. Take a stiff brush and drag it the length of your base. Breaks the surface tension.

Jealous - I didn't think I would get to go at all this year, but I may have a free lodging setup in Reno, which is near a few resorts I've never been to. We'll see. . .

I thought I was having rotator cuff surgery, but it was not as bad as the Dr. thought.

I haven't taken any pictures yet this year, but terrain is opening up like crazy with another good storm coming this weekend.

This weekend was weird. My daughter went on Saturday. Same day the tram and sublet lift ( upper mountain) all opened. Sunny powdery day and NO ONE was there. We went Sunday same deal. Dumping and by 1 the mountain was empty.

Going up to SkiBowl tonight with my younger daughter after work.

Originally had the Clickers on it, but the boots disintegrated long ago

Is got a few nicks, bruises, and gouges, but I’ve always tried to get them cleaned up and repaired right away.

probably going to start looking for a replacement this year.

We're getting a second dump this weekend. Bought a directional/freeride/powder board to try out for this year. Rossignol (I was a skier first, will always stick with an R under my boots) sashimi model. Looking forward to a little more float.

    @RainMan_PNW that K2 is a beaut.

Nice. Picked this up the day our mountain closed last year. Waiting for a bit more snow. We’ve gotten just under 200” so far. 4FD21C93-2174-4597-80E0-4C433654654F.jpg

Just picked up some new gear for the season. Lib Tech Orca, Burton Photon Step On boots, Burton Genesis Step On bindings. I used to love the K2 clickers... despite what others said. The reviews on the Step Ons are actually positive so hopefully they work out.

The blue skeleton Scotty Wittlake was my favorite board of all time, but started to separate and is now retired.

I loved the clickers too - never had the issues others had with them. I'm watching the Burtons, but not ready to go that route yet - I've got a really nice set of Ride boots that have been awesome. A Lib Tech or Jones will be my next board though.

I’m curious about the step on bindings but don’t like that only a few of the boots are available and work with them. Plus, the other day when it was snowing I saw a guy who was struggling to get locked in. I guess he was having issues with ice buildup.

I rode the original Burton step ins way back. Snow build up was no worse than regular bindings. I agree it’s all about the boots.

My K2s would cake up occasionally but they were are an early 90s version, so maybe different?

Haven’t snowboarded in quite some time but I did upgrade my boots to the cable twist lock K2 Raiders when they came out years back and also created a Frankenstein version of Burton’s Cartel bindings. Just need to upgrade my board at some point.

Didn’t get these posted up over the weekend.
It was a little breezy and that had a bite to the air. Groomers were good, but the base was hard. Getting my younger one to get better about connecting her turns (heel side to toe side she’s still getting comfortable with) - she had a couple falls that bruised up the knees so we called it after about 3-1/2 hours.
