I just use a plastic crate in the bed. On long trips he rides in the cab. I put the seats up and since I have the ESP storage under the seats, I made a platform out of plywood and 2x4s that I carpeted. He just lays in the back of the cab. I may end up getting one of those harnesses that plug into the seatbelts just to help contain him because he likes to try and climb into the front seat every time I get in and out of the truck.

Impact Dog Crates or K9 Gunner Kennels are what I would recommend. Although both are pricey.

We bought this from Petsmart here in Canada.
We just strap it into the bed of the Tacoma just to make sure it was a bit more stable, but he enjoyed it in there.

His eyes even lit up :p

With the Tundra we often just let him ride in the cab with the kids and we buckle him in. He is 75 lbs

Regardless of brand or breed, always make sure you pick the proper size crate. Your dog should be able to stand and turn around within the confines of the kennel. Err on the large size if unsure.

I don't believe in crates. My dogs have always been family members, not pets. If for some reason they couldn't ride in the back seat I would buy a bed topper for them

My RTK is great. They are solid, I like the composite grates/doors and my pup always seemed to be comfortable in it. Since I put a shell on the Tundra she rides back there.

My dog being a family member is precisely the reason I believe in some sort of protection/restraint. I've read too many people talk about their dogs ending up at their feet or on their dash during a sudden stop/accident. Just like I wouldn't let a kid ride without something to keep them from flying around the same goes for my dog. BTW, good looking pup you have there in your sig!

I have made many panic stops and the dogs may bounce off of the front setbacks but have never flown over the headrest. They just climb back onto the rear seat after it is over, never been hurt. I must admit they always lie in the seat, never stand up and move around.
The pup in the picture passed on to the Rainbow bridge about 7 years ago

My dogs ride in the back seat mostly so I don't own one of these but if my dogs were in the bed, I would have a Gunner Kennel. I met the designer at a dog training event and talked to him about testing, I'm impressed in what they did to get to this point. These things will survive most wrecks where the "cheap" ones will not. That said they are "proud" of them.

No matter what kennel you choose, shock cords are not how you tie down a kennel in a truck bed. Spend the time to lash down the crate right or just do this...

I have three dogs on Orvis beds at my feet right now so I guess you could call them family. They are also "crate trained". They love their crates and search them out when it is time for bed. Don't think just because a dog has a crate, they are not loved.

Ours also seek out their crates for bed time, also at times when we're hanging out they like to lay in them.
    Door open or closed.

Even my youngest Son has been caught hanging out in the larger ones crate...

their kennels aren't large enough for the type of dogs i like or use to own.

i don't see a kennel as anything other than a dog's "room". My dogs would go inntheir kennels on their own to get away from the crowd but still be near the family and they were always treated as family members....not just pets.

There’s always gloating on who gets the bed...I don’t love him less.....Saving for a second one... Gunner Kennels are not cheap.. Until then...I have to limit my off-roading...a bit.

my dogs love their crate, when you can't find them that's where they are with doors open

I hope they fare as well in an accident!

Our pup wears a harness and is clipped into the seatbelt. Kinda like our kids.
