So, I bought a 2017 TRD Pro and after two weeks, have decided the truck is just not me. I tried getting it to where I like it. Spent $3000 on new wheels etc. I haven't made first payment and want to trade it for a 1794 edition. I'm just a chrome kind of guy I guess. How much you think dealer will work with me? Truck has 1400 miles. IMG_5570.jpg

it's going to sting a little for sure. I'd revert it to stock, sell the upgrades and sell privately unless you have a friendly dealer

Unfortunate you don't like the pro. Good that you recognize your wants before you got more miles. The best thing you have going for yourself is that it is one of the most desired trucks on the market right now and holding value better than any.

    welcome to the club :D

I did that once with my Tacoma ... bought the very base model and liked it so much and after a year and 18K miles traded in for a fully loaded truck - same size engine and everything!

like cement pro said my guess is also 2-4K plus you lose the sales tax (if any in your state) on the original purchase price.

if there is sales tax in your state:
when trading, you will only pay sales tax on the price difference; however, if you sell on your own and buy a new one then you have to pay the sales tax again on the whole price ... of course dealers know this and may play a little game with you and if you want a quick end it may be easier to trade it in than selling it on your own.

Thanks for the input. My dealer is a very good dealer (family owned for decades and I have purchased many vehicles from the same salesman). He said he will run some numbers and he's hoping only about a grand loss for me. He's able to discount the 1794 down about $3500. I spent $3000 on the new wheels and sold my originals for $1500 so all said and done it's about a $2500 mistake on my part. My truck is my office so this is an important decision.

I know how you feel. I had to have the Platinum, then added the items I wanted from the TRD Pro that I wanted. Created my own version so that I had the best of both worlds. Hopefully you are able to jump out without getting to hurt. Good luck!

Why not buy the chrome you want and add other things you want aftermarket ? I got the 2017 sr5 crewmax and added leather seats , and I'm add heated seats later , and some trd mods like the Sway bar and I'm doing a custom rigid grill, changing my exhuast and so on.

Wow, so you would rather have more Chrome and Peanut Butter interior over a Pro. I am shocked. You will take a hit for sure. Keep the trunk you have and add the chrome. Less expensive and yes you can avoid that horrible interior.

What ^^ said. Swap out grill, door handles and side mirror caps. I have the handles and caps if you want, just pay for shipping. Than is unless you want the brown interior color too.

What specifically do you not like about the Pro over the 1794? Just curious. Maybe we can help save you some money here. (where usually we make everyone spend money)

Yeah I'm with these other guys unless it's something specific with the other truck that you want most of that stuff can be had. And I could bet you there is a lot of guys out there that want the pro parts you may not want and they would be getting rid of theirs. Swap for swap . And I would imagine some of them would be willing to give you some money towards your parts along with their take offs.

Just to be clear, this isn't the case in all states. In Ohio you pay tax on the total price of the new truck. Trade does nothing for the taxes. Sales tax on used vehicles is a f-ing racket if you ask me but I digress.... :annoyed:

In Georgia, you just pay tax on the difference when trading in.

Let's see, on the Pro I just like the chrome look better. Chrome grill, door handles, mirrors, wheels. Like the wood grain steering wheel, heated/cooled seats, folding mirrors. SUNROOF!

I had a 2012 Crewmax Platinum that I traded in for the Pro. I guess I miss my old truck!

Just got back from dealer and it wasn't pretty. Basically, would cost me about $5000 to trade in for a 1794. Add the tonneau cover and wheels a put on and it would be about a $7500 hit. Looks like I will stick with the Pro for at least a year or so.

I feel like they are bending you over. They could easily sell that pro for mrsp within a week. Try private party, or take off the after market stuff and put it on your new truck. Buy old take offs from somebody and put it back on your truck.

It seems that 1794's MSRP is about $4000 more than Pro's MSRP. If you have to just pay $5000 to upgrade to 1794, it doesn't seem like a bad deal. If they are charging you $5000 in addition to $4000 MSRP difference (total of $9000), then it seems like the dealer is trying to maximize their profit (at your expense) especially considering how quickly Pros are selling.

It may be difficult for some people to believe, but there are some people (even on this forum) who like chrome (me for one). I also happen to like the interior of 1794.

Yep, I think I'll keep it for a year then sell it. Can't see value going down to much in first year.

I paid right at $48,000 for mine. Had spray in bed liner and they threw in an $800 tonneau cover. New 1794 was discounted down to about $50,000. They wanted all their fees again which added another $600 bucks.
