Hello everyone. Looking for some suggestions for offroad parks or trails in Texas. Maybe a few hours from Houston. I have only taken my truck through some some mud spots by the levee (fishing spots). Feel free to post offroad pics! :)

Here are the places I heard of so far:

    Galveston, TX San Luis Pass
Matagorda, TX (miles of sands to drive in)

Unfortunately, most parks and trails are a few hours from metro population centers like Houston and DFW.

These are the ones I can remember off the top of my head:

    BMRA in Gilmer
    Hidden Falls in Marble Falls
    Escondido Draw in Ozona
    Katemcy Rocks in Mason
    Bridgeport OHV in Bridgeport
    Big Bend National Park

I haven’t tried looking, but I’m guessing there might be some national forest dirt roads in Angelina and Davy Crockett National Forests. I’ve also heard of some dirt roads at the LBJ National Grasslands.

Out of state I know of Hot Springs OHV park in Arkansas (went there about 15 years ago) and some trails in southeast Oklahoma by Clayton. Further away there are some nice trails at Santa Fe National Forest east of Santa Fe.

There’s also a new, privately-owned, members-only OHV park in Palo Duro Canyon. I looked into it, but membership was pretty pricey last I checked.

And in this Texas folder there’s a thread where someone took there Tundra through miles and miles of dirt roads through parts of Texas.

I’m sure there are others that I’ve forgotten about. Hopefully others will chime in.

Just came back from Hidden Falls last or two weekends ago. It’s a nice place with plenty of technical trails. Can camp but, get somewhat pricey. I paid 40 for wheeling and camping with a discount. They also charge per passenger.

offcamber is a driving school in Llano. Pricey but one fee will cover any passengers (literally as many as you bring, everyone can drive the course) Since this is a school/instructional, the prices are much higher than HF

    Cheers!
