Bakflip MX4 Repairs - Who's Done Them?

Bought this truck with a Bakflip MX4 installed. Truck is over 5 years old and I have no information on the cover purchase so I'm unsure if warranty would cover this damage.

Before I reinvent the wheel, has anyone repaired their MX4 plastic cable covers or should I just rip them off and let the cable hang?

 

I have a similar problem with my BakFlip G2 that was installed on my '14 CrewCab when I bought it. Was pretty sure the warranty had expired, but I never contacted BakFlip to see. Mine is aluminum, and i just took it off. Looks like if you did that, it wouldn't be secure, but it might still close.

I've thinking of replacing the whole thing with either a newer BakFlip F1 or a Retrax. The Retrax are twice the cost though.

 

Update: I called Bak industries today and explained the problem to warranty. They didnt even ask for serial number or purchase date, simply sent out the replacement kits. I was really impressed with how they handled my issue.

We'll see when the parts come in if I'm just as happy.

It's worth a quick 3 minute phone call.

That’s great OP! I am surprised because they didn’t stand by my MX4 when it was brand new.

 

It did seem wayy too easy. Possibly the best customer seevice engagement I've had. Zero questions asked. Said they ship out the entire latch assembly and all plastic covers. Asked how many needed replacement. Hopefully everything arrives as expected.

I'm out of warranty by a year and a half with my G2 and one of my panels has delaminated from the foam inside.

 

Haha, sure. Called 818-365-9000. Around noon ET and spoke with Blanca Flores. Told her the issue I was having. Couple hours after the call I had a confirmation email with all the details we discussed and an estimated ship date.

The call was literally less than 5 minutes from start to finish.

Did you mention anything about how old it was?

 

Nope, and she didn't even ask. I would have if she asked but it never came up.

I think the longest part was spelling out my name and email to her.

 

Gave them a call, didn't get lucky and got Kristen, they opened up a case and asked for:
Proof of purchase
Serial number (unreadable sticker under the front panel)
Picture of the cover on the truck.
Picture of a straight edge over the delaminated panel.

We'll see if I get lucky.....

 

Ah, that stinks, maybe they'll still pull through. I can't even find the serial number label on mine, just the MX4 Truck hero label at the back.

 

It's pretty dumb, they use a paper label.
Here's what mine looks like.

 

Parts arrived today. Four new plastic latch covers and a new latch cable assembly. Should be able to install them Friday.

 

Update. Received four new covers and one new latch assembly. Need another latch assembly since you have to destroy the cover to take the latch assembly off, then cut the old cable to fish it through the new covers before crimping to the latch assembly.

Emailed Bak to tell them I needed one more latch assembly and gasket kit and they emailed right back with shipping info less than a day later. No questions asked. Great customer service yet again!

 

Has anyone here replaced the rubber seal that runs along the bedsides? My seal has cracked and split from folding the cover back and forth and needs to be replaced. I bought the new seal, but can't find any write up or instructions for replacing it.
