I just dropped 6k on an RLD cap and after the first rain I’ve noticed it’s leaking from the front of the truck bed. Anyone else have this problem with RLD or any other cap?

Most caps will leak at the front edge of the installer isn't specifically told to pay attention and seal it thoroughly. Leer on my Tacoma leaked up front, Snugtop on my Tundra leaks up front. I'll eventually lift it up and seal it. Bed rail caps also allow water to get by, fix that by pulling them off and putting sealant down before putting them back on.

Personally, I plan to get a few tubes of butyl rubber sealant when I seal mine.

if you have the dealer install it take it back and let them know. No show should leak that bad, maybe a little at the tailgate but that’s it. They should’ve used a weatherstrip like this which comes in different thicknesses for different weights.

They did use that stuff. I think it’s leaking due to the bed rails on the sides leaving a 5mm gap on the front of the bed

You may also want to play around with the positioning of the cap on the bed. I had to move mine around a bit, and if you push it too far forward, it will start riding up and creating a gap. So you may have it too far forward? In the end, RTV or other sealant is your friend.

It’s probably cause the center along the bed is lower than the edges. You have to compensate with a bigger foam piece. I also had to use butyl tape on the corners like said above. But also go back to the installer and make them fix it.

I had the same problem on my 2016. The center of the bed is lower than the sides. The installer used a different kind of gasket or doubled the gasket, I don't remember which to make up the space. I'm pretty sure a little sealant was used also.

Yes the front accounts for a thicker section or double it up. It looks like the picture may have a leak or two from the window . Hard to tell but there are some streaks there.

Park in the garage or wait till night and use a flashlight held inside the cap to identify leaks. Then try to fill as best you can. It probably won't be 100% but should be a lot better.

My used cap on my old 2002 Tundra was almost bone dry. I ordered and waited around 4 months for the cap to my 2021 to arrive. Living in Oregon, I quickly found out the new cap/truck combo leaked like a sieve. I took it back into the dealer for that and another issue. It was on this second visit that I was informed most newer trucks leak because water can find it’s way up and through the plastic bed rail caps on most of todays trucks. Why this information was not presented to me before install or during my 4 month wait, I’m not sure of. When it gets warm and dry enough around here I plan on pulling the bed rail caps up to seal it all up. I read somewhere that on top of putting down a sealant, it may be a good idea to cover any stamped holes on top with aluminum duct tape or similar.

I was told something similar. It’s about a 2 hour RT drive and $60 to go back to the dealer for me. At this point I’d rather just fix this myself. So my budget is $60, and about 2 hours of my time or more. How do I seal this cap. One and done correctly.

    Update.

turns out it wasn’t installed correctly, or tightened enough. The cap slid back just enough to have a small gap for water to enter. They fixed it. All good!
