Does anyone know how to take out the amber side marker lens on the tow mirrors? I'm wanting to replace them with the smoked lens.

These are on eBay. Made by A-1 Auto. They are really nice if I can figure out how to remove the factory amber ones.

I haven't done this personally but I've heard that you need to remove two torques bit screws that mount the lens inside the mirror housing. I don't know how you remove the mirror... maybe they're just popped into place cause I have now clue how they're secured into the mirror housing.

If you tilt the movable mirror inward you'll see a couple of screws to remove.

I bought my mirrors off 1a-auto I didn't like lenses too dark so got me OEMs lenses because if u stood front n back of truck u couldn't see led lights when turn signals were on so OEMs don't fit right in the aftermarket mirrors but yeah if you move mirrors certain way there two screws you can get to so you take off lenses but 1A-Auto sells lenses

Adjust the mirrors all the way in with the switch on the dash. You can get to the two screws to the outside of the mirror glass.

This is an old thread but I swapped out a turn signal marker on my 2008 tow mirror this morning so chiming in with my experience if it’s helpful. I tilted the mirror inward but there was no way I was going to be able to reach the torx screws with the tools I had on hand.

I ended up removing the mirror glass. “Just pop it out” felt a bit vague, but I’m here to tell you it’s true. The tow mirror glass does NOT come out in the same way the regular mirror glass does (which requires to be pried straight up, then out). It literally pulls straight out away from the mirror housing with no other manipulation required. Don’t be afraid to give it a little tug. You might have to move the mirror a bit to get your fingers around an edge or two.

Changing out the turn signal marker is a piece of cake with the glass out. Remove two screws and the electrical connector, pull it out, and reverse those steps with the new marker.

Putting the mirror glass in was more challenging than removal. It requires a pretty firm push to seat solidly and I was afraid I was going to crack the glass or something. But I braced my fingers directly where the plastic backing ring was, and was able to apply enough pressure but not so much as to break it. Very pleased overall with how it worked.

Can you post some pictures of the OEM mirrors with the new markers installed?

I didn’t put in the darker lens, I installed an amber OEM replacement as the original was damaged. So my pictures probably aren’t what you’re looking for.

I just got my smoked lenses in the mail. I was able to unscrew the two screws holding the lens in place without removing the mirror. MY ISSUE IS THE ORIGINAL LENSES HAVE SILICON HOLDING WIRES WHERE A PLUG WOULD BE AND WIRES ARE CONNECTED INSIDE ORIGINAL LENS, so I removed the silicone and the wires go plum inside the signal with no plug. My new mirrors have a three prong plug insert and I can’t just plug them in now. I cut the wires in the originals as close as I could thinking I could surely figure out a way to connect them to the three prong plug on new ones. Can I just solder the wires onto the prongs or should I find a three prong connector that could half ass plug into the lens?

You could always paint the orange ones and reinstall them for a much cheaper price.

mine are still visible like they used to be, just invisible when off.

And yes, like others have said if you angle the mirror, you can access the screws.
