I was running wires under my truck today when I noticed a loose part sitting on the gas tank between some of the lines and the truck's frame. The part has a metallic gray painted finish, and what looks like stamped markings of:

    1134 12R
    CHERDE
    EN12368
As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to be a part from the truck itself. My best guess is it was probably road debris that somehow ended up on top of the gas tank, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any idea what this might be?

That's the cover off the alternator fluid reservoir.

    You're welcome.

I am pretty sure that it is part of the muffler bearing. More like 110%

Or maybe part of the fog-light motor??

It's the gasterantolyte cover. If it was not attached you're running serious risk of contamination of the fiyrlgrometer and will probably have to have it recalibated.

It's a steel toe from a work boot.

So either road debris, or someone on the assembly line needed a new "steel belted radial" that day.

The boot was a size 12 right, if I'm not mistaken.

Its the hydrasolator guard. Without it your blinker fluid reservoir could be penetrated by road debris. Only way to put it back permanently is by synthesizing some glue from the Mexican Staring Frog of Southern Sri Lanka.

Fortunately for you, I've got a hive of those frogs and have some surplus glue. Send me $10,000 via pay-pal and I will ship overnight

:facepalm:Must've been from that dude I ran over the other day when he jumped in front of my truck.

For real though, how the heck did you come up with that? I wear steel toes everyday to work and it didn't even dawn on me that this could be from something that's not a machine. Gotta do more thinking outside the box I guess.

Remember the stories of a GM/Ford/Chrysler/AMC/??? employee putting something in a door to rattle and drive the owner crazy, well this has got everyone guessing.

It is half of the blinker fluid reservoir . The other half probably fell off. Now your blinkers don't work and you will need a I D 10 T wrench to install another one. You are in luck because there is a big sale on blinker fluid on Fleabay.

I think it is a size 12 right foot. But what do all the other markings mean?

I've worked with guys who don't replace their boots until after the toe cap falls out. Took me a minute to figure out why it looked familiar.

Now I'm confused. You need to kick your espresso machine to make it work? Or the espresso motivates you up like a kick in the rump with a size 12 steel toed boot?
