Any other MR2 owners out there? I just picked up this ‘01 Spyder with a 2zz swap and roll bar installed, among some other track-ready goodies. It needs some work to be street legal again but it’s an absolute blast to drive.

I’ve got a 93 turbo chassis getting a 2GR with hybrid pistons. Marc from Frankenstein motorworks is going to help with the tune to get it running right and hopefully it’ll be on the TCS dyno this summer

serious question, not trolling… what’s the appeal of these over a Miata?

    Function before sparkle.
Scarcity and the MR2 is mid-engined.

Stock for stock, I absolutely think the Miata is a better overall car. With the swap though, this thing is really fun.

I had a 91 non-turbo MR2 back in the day. Great car and wished I hung onto it.

Had a persistent O2 heater circuit code preventing me from passing emissions… well it turns out whoever did the original swap left one of the grounds completely disconnected so I had to improvise. After this, I need to flush the coolant and replace a few broken bits and bobs here and there.

I currently have a clean 27k mile ‘87. Used to have a ‘91 turbo. Turbo was fun but frankly both are/were extremely dull to drive compared to my s2000.

I’ve also driven a 400 HP ‘94 and ridden in a 900 HP ‘93 hardtop. FAST but I’d still take the s2000. Night and day better handling.

An exhaust hanger off my crappy cobbled together exhaust, so I went ahead and overpaid for the PPE/magnaflow exhaust that matches my header. It sounds great but definitely needs a bigger tip…
