Regarding the Dead - to me, it ended with Jerry.

John Mayer is a very talented guitarist, no doubt about it - he can replicate just about anyone with precision. So can a Xerox machine - but they don’t hang a photo copy of the Mona Lisa and people pay to see it now do they…point is you want to see the original, not a protege and not a replicator.

The Dead are different as they maintained solo projects all along - and then together they were the Grateful Dead. So now you got a few guys doing dead songs without the main man. Sorry - it’s a tribute band with a few originals joining in - nothing more. No slam on tributes - some are good/great - but they are not orginal.

Just like going to see Creedence Clearwater Revisited or whatever they're calling themselves now without Fogerty. Or like the session musicians that The Guess Who hired calling themselves The Guess Who after Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman left the band.

Yeah. I feel you on this. I’m not sure anyone is going to a d&co show with the expectation Jerry is going to appear out of the ether. The best part of every dead show is that nothing was ever “xerox-ed”. So everyone was an original not to be replicated.

But, the music holds up if you’re into it. And they’re doing a respectful job carrying the flame. And they get some props from old heads as well. I’ve enjoyed the performances.

Understood. Can't argue with your position on John and Paul's creative abilities vs "The King's".

I'm no authority on The Beatles but I've often wondered how different the outcome of their product would have been without George Martin though.

Another one to add to my list: The Kinks. I'm listening to some of their live stuff right now and it's amazing. So high energy and fantastic musicianship.

Just read through the list and was going to say Black Sabbath with Ozzy, but others beat me to it on page 3. Zakk Wylde puts on a great cover show and tours as Zakk Sabbath every couple of years.

But here's something you all missed.....
Dun dun DUNNNNN..... Cheap Trick is incredible in concert!! They opened up for Stone Temple Pilots back in 1996/97 and I was all like "who cares about them" but they blew the doors off of the pavilion and had the audience eating it up!! Still shocked at how great they were.

Yes, circa '72 or so. Preferably with Bill Bruford.

King Crimson, both Greg Lake and Discipline eras.
