Ok, so when I bought my 17 Platinum used, I was given a typical factory fob which should work with the factory remote start. I believed this was part of the Platinum package but could be wrong. I also later found, stuffed into an envelope with paperwork, an extra fob, aftermarket. It’s made by Autostart. Neither of them actually remote start my truck. I wonder if the remote start was disabled or not even attached. Where would I begin to look? Is there an easy way to tell? Plz help and thnx ahead of time.

I just picked up my new 2021 SR5 today (it got caught up in the recall) and the dealer said the remote start is free for the 1st year and then becomes a subscription service @ $80.00 per year. He pushed the lock button on the key fob 3 times. Short push, short push then push and hold for three seconds. Truck started. It stops when you open the door. Give it a try.

The pay to use doesn't apply to the older trucks (pre 2020) I think. Your button sequence is dead on though.

Yes it is. And I’m sorry. I should’ve been clear that I tried that. I also charged the AutoStart fob and tried it. It gets charged rather than used a battery. I wonder how long it was dead though. I’ll just have to search around, look for a unit plugged in somewhere. There has to be a unit on the truck if I have it at all. Just not sure what it looks like or where it is.

Well, if it was aftermarket from the previous owner I would try googling the brand name to see if you can find online instructions. Much easier than trying to find a box or trace wires.

I just bought a 2020 and was told you had to use the phone app to remote start. I bought the subscription, but when I try the app tells me it's unlocked or the fob is in the truck, neither of which are true. Any ideas? I'll try the fob trick just for the hell of it!
