After a month or more I have finally been able to reverse engineer the TPMS signals to the cluster on the 2018+ trucks. I think this will work for all 2018+ Toyotas but has only been tested on my 2018 Tundra cluster.

Cluster is powered on the bench and all signals are sent via the CAN (communication area network) using my PC. This is the result of hours and hours or reverse engineering.

With the cluster on and we get this screen with no option to display TPMS values and the orange warning light on.
    0630DA7A-D1D7-46BB-9D57-16214C7064F6.jpg

Now the orange warning light is off but still no display to scroll down too.
    A57559D3-D5D4-4FE5-8976-975843B3CFEF.jpg

Ahh there it is, notice the blue slide bar now present on the right of the screen. It was not there in the previous 2 photos.
    6D675CF7-9A0F-482A-A464-1929D2E4E24A.jpg

Now we have the display but no data shown. Hmmm
    F14A2995-AFDC-4457-8729-787749090E8D.jpg

Oh there it is, I set all tires to 40 PSI.
    A62C7375-3525-4206-BF95-ADFA553B75E8.jpg

This is where it gets cool. I realized depending on the code you can activate a 5th value for spare tire. I don’t think I have seen any trucks with this but know some of the systems hold the ID of 5 sensors to include the spare.
    FCCC6357-F496-471B-98F0-456B65D93E1C.jpg

Signals can be sent to highlight any value, I assume to show it as the issue sensor. I was able to send values all the way from 1 psi to 125 psi. I could also change Units to KpA or Bar just didn’t photo those as PSI is most common.

    EC9CC861-45D5-4BC9-91EE-26D1E88E97AF.jpg

The best news about this is I now know of a way to keep the orange indicator light off forever no matter what but you could still use your display to see readouts if you have sensors in your wheel. Or you could turn the orange warning light and display screen off all together.

A think a small computer chip to plug inline with the TPMS ecu would be the easiest solution. Quick install and easy to undo, just unplug the connecters and pull the “chip” out of line.

Also I am like 90% of the way done with being able to run a 2018+ cluster on a 2014-2017 truck. I have almost all the signals mapped from both clusters and will build a translator to make sure the data is sent to the correct locations where the newer 2018+ clusters are looking for it

Freaking Awesome! 5 sensors displayed! Even my 2021 only shows 4.
    Really nice work.

I believe all cluster displays have the ability to show 5 sensors. That doesn’t really matter however if the TPMS ecu only stores 4 sensor IDs. Tech stream is the easiest way to check that.

If yours has 5 IDs I would assume it’s sending 5 signals, just need to get the display to show all 5

I know my truck stores 5. (I have a sensor in my spare and my AUTEL TS508 shows 5 stored via the OBD)
Just don't know how to get it to Show 5 on the display.

The difference is one byte in the signal from the TPMS Ecu. Would be cool if an option in Techstream told the TPMS ecu to switch to 5 instead of 4.

The only other option is an inline can bus signal generator that would send the data from the TPMS Ecu along with the corrected byte to tell the display to show 5

This is badass! I'm game for a cluster update unless this eventually works for the 17

So far my research has shown all the TPMS data on 2007-2017 is on the K line and the only signal sent to the instrument cluster is to turn on/off the orange warning light.

I am going to swap a 2018+ TPMS ecu into my 2007. Hopefully it will send PSI data to the cluster then. However the only way I know to display it currently is by using the newer 2018+ cluster in an older truck

Copy that. Would it be difficult to turn the light off on the current 17 cluster? I'd be ok with alone.

It’s actually not that hard. I have considered making a say 6 in plug and play harness that would turn off the light. Could be installed or undone in minutes.

Would just plug inline between the TPMS ecu and factory harness.

This is really cool, I'm down for it, it's annoying when I air down on the trails and constantly get the warning message.

Man, do you work for automotive electronic industry?

I do not currently but have considered it one day. All this is a hobby for me in my free time. Self taught, working on learning more about reading/editing EEPROM and Flash memory. If I can figure that out it could open up a huge door of possibilities. I was fortunate to be taught the basics of electricity as well as how to write/program computer code serval years ago.

I do have a masters degree in engineering from a major school here in Texas but it’s in Transportation. Highway Design, Traffic Signals ect. I work as a professional engineer in transportation forensics, studying and reconstructing auto accidents.

    @Jeff_5_7

Nice job reverse engineering. Can you figure out how to program ultragauge to read the tire pressures?
I know it can be done if you have the code. Friend and I tried a few codes on his ultragauge but it didn't work.

Depends on what year, the 2018+ would be easy to code in BUT you have all that info on the dash already so kind of pointless. The 2017 and older uses a different commination system. I don't know how to code it to work but there is a way. I have considered looking into it just need to find the time.
The Mastreo interface for the radio and steering wheel controls can do it on the older trucks. It displays the values on the headunit screen.

dope af that you're able to figure all this out.

when you get the ability to run a 5th and 6th (single axle trailer) TPMS on a 2018+ I'm in!

thanks for the info. Will have to look into Mastreo. Like to have something to read my tire pressures.

I have a 2016 with no PSI display. I programmed my scangauge and a friend's ultragauge to read trans temp and it was not that difficult but I had the code from someone here.

my friends ultragauge should be able to do it because someone else at work programmed his ultragauge to read them but we lost contact with him when he switched jobs.

I dug around with Techstream and I do not see a way to be able to add the 5th ID for the TPMS of the spare. The 5th position is there and it even has the “set” in there. I believe this allows for multiple (2 I would see being the max) “sets” of wheels for summer and winter use.

At any rate I do not ever see a way to update the count from 4 to 5 and it is weird it is seen everywhere but you cannot add the ID anywhere. Anyone know the trick to get the ID number added for the 5th wheel? I pushed the button under the dash and all 5 of them changed from the location they are assigned to and they all 5 said “judging”.

    Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: I was told the Tundra is a 4 tire system not a 5 like some others.

Your profession saved me around a half million dollars. Amazing how accident investigator and reconstruction professionals can find the smallest detail without even being onsite after the accident.

I have not made one yet but I am pretty certain it can be done fairly easily.

It really is a fascinating profession at times. I have worked on over 500 accidents in the last few years. Lots of travel to look at wrecked cars or accident scenes. A lot of evidence collection using drones, 3d scanners and other cool stuff.

Majority if everything I do is in Texas and generally involves a commercial vehicle, lots of 18 wheelers.
