The diminished value can really help later on down the road.

One of my close friends had 29000.00 worth of damages to his F350 and they fixed it. He got and needed 8,000.00 in dimimished value 6 months later.

Another person I used to chat with has a Porsche 918. Before he even put plates on it, a lady rear ended him with a 90's Honda Accord. 60,000 dollars later it was good to go. I guess that isn't bad concidering the car was 1M.

Yeah all that was included in those categories... I just like to cover it with a broad brushstroke instead of looking into specifics. Still your point remains, there is much that goes into this repair.

    I'm a former Honda/Toyota mechanic.

There are various sensors throughout the SRS system in a vehicle that cause an airbag to deploy. The sensors have to be directly impacted in order for any of those sensors to trigger an airbag deployment, or other factors calculated by the SRS unit must be applied. Some common locations for sensors are: mounted onto both front and rear bumper beams, and several inside the car such as along the B-pillars. Looking at the damage to your truck none of those sensors were struck, and other variables weren't triggered to cause an airbag deployment.

I actually worked on a van where their kid shorted the SRS system by kicking one of the connectors beneath his seat.

Sorry to see the damage to your truck though. Glad to hear you're alright

    Oh one or two.
Sorry this happened but diminished value claims really never pan out.

My best friend is a attorney for one of the largest insurance companies in the us and he told me after my wife was hit don't even bother. It takes months if not years to settle and it's only a thousand or two most of the time unless it's like a sports car or something hard to get.

I've never heard of that being the case. It's quick and you don't need to hire any attorney for it. Yes, insurance companies have their own attorneys but they won't fight you for a few thousand that should be owed to you.

At the most, you might have to hire a 3rd party to do the diminished value appraisal if you think the insurance company's offer is not fair.

Most people don't know they should get a DV check, you just have to tell them.

This is a $40k truck. If there was structural damage that they repair, I'd bet he loses at least $5000 if he tried to sell it after the repair, compared to the condition it was in before the accident.

I'm not trying to argue, but there's a lot of advice floating around out there. And in this case, advice that the OP shouldn't be compensated for his DV for an accident with which he is at zero fault for is not fair to the OP. He is owed that money if it can be shown his truck has now lost value.

Met with the field adjuster yesterday. As of right now, the damage is 8k, it may go up, depending if the body man finds anything else once he digs into it and gets it apart.

You were right on the money. I guess being an Auto body shop owner helps with estimating repairs like this...

I've only had my one experience with this, but the first in person look by the insurance's field adjuster wrote it for $6000. When the body shop got it, without even tearing anything down, wrote it for $28,000 (totaled). I'm not sure what the field adjuster's intent is, or if the guy I had was just that bad.

Well, I went and looked at my truck. NOT HAPPY!!!!!!! Trash in the paint, gap between fender and hood is off, bad. I'm just disgusted, wish they would have just totalled the damn thing.

Looks good, personally I would have to sell it, and roll with a brand new Tundra while yours is still looking good. From what you said initially about the body shops not so great work, I would have long term concerns about what I can't see and overall durability/longevity of their work.

But if your happy and most of all confident, and it drives straight, hang on to it.

You are right on OEM parts, the fit and finish is much nicer all the way around. I can't speak for all insurance companies, but USAA who I use, has fine print which states they are not required to use OEM replacement parts on a vehicle over two yrs old. They pulled this stunt when my wife needed a new trunk on her 14 Accord EXL due to some "knob" following her too close running into her bumper and trunk lid. He admitted fault and was cited by the PoPo.
The trunk lid got tweaked, bumper tweaked and USAA said repair. I told them replace or I would drop our auto and homeowners policy. The difference for USAA in OEM parts and aft market wa like $300.00 They were smart and caved, they did the math and ...boom! Amazing... a brand new OEM trunk and bumper lid was installed. I actually saw the parts when they arrived when I dropped off car. It was also in my contract with my local body shop who highly reccomends OEM parts.

Glad they got it fixed up for you and unfortunatly sometimes stuff like that happens, not sure the size of the shop you took it to but if it is bigger I truly believe that sometimes you lose that personal touch, my shop is small and we treat everyone's car like it is my grandmothers........ and she's a picky old cuss lol
But seriously other than the DV if they got things right for you then I would keep it and drive the wheels off it
Other than my tundra the lady 4 cars I've owned have all been reconstructed and if done correctly you shouldn't have an issue

Got mine three weeks ago. They had it 3 weeks to put a bed side on, farmed out to a dealership for bumper recall, rear leafs and alignment for a additional week. I get the truck back and now I'm finding little things that were forgotten. Plastic front bed corner wasn't replaced(didn't even replace the double sided tape) nor did they replaced protective film on the corner. Just little stuff, but hell if I hadn't call about the truck they would have had it another week because the adjuster went on vacation and didn't tell anyone anything about the truck.

This is shocking! Google "diminished value calculator" and see how they actually determine the amount. My 2015 Lexus RX 350 just got rear ended pretty bad. In trying to understand what I might get I was shocked how low it was. It sounds like you did VERY well! I haven't gotten to that part of our settlement yet.

I hired a professional DV company to do it for me. Had to give them the work order and all, and they send the report and all to the insurance company. I'm pretty sure the insurance company isn't gonna just give me 11k, I'll have to make a decision on what I'm willing to settle for.
