Something that bothered me on the early 2nd gen tacos was the pink on the tail lights

You must be more of a brown guy than a pink guy?

Doors are so worth it, despite the high maintenance. I mean, holy s, the number of times I've had to shove in or yank out my kids in crowded spots, being able to push a button and not smash some other car in the parking lot, paid for all the headache of lube/adjustments. I know it's blasphemy but if I could get sliding doors in a DC pickup I would.

Fluid costs I can live with. Gladly. Though CVT would be nice. We have the 9spd since we got an EX-L instead of paying more for the vacuum. Had I been a bit more astute at the time I might have made an argument for the 10 but I wasn't aware that it was an option in the upper trim levels and I think it was brand spankin' new at the time and we bought in late 2017.

I did swap out the sunshade in the mid door on one side that my older kid destroyed from f'ing with it too many times with an eBay part replacement. That was a bit of work with all the damn fasteners but I got it done in a couple of hours for $60 in parts. I'm guessing maybe $250-$300 at the dealer?

I'm still pissed off we paid them to do the roof racks. I refused to let them do the hitch, though my wife still reminds me about how she watched the kids while I was cutting the bumper and running the harness. She was going to be OK paying them $1500 cash to replace the cracked windshield vs going through insurance (safelite wasted an entire day with non-OEM glass before doing it the right way on a 2nd visit).

It's funny, I like having the dealer do oil changes and inspections but I dislike paying them for most other stuff. I don't really make any sense.

Part of it probably has to do with bias, seeing as there's a 4.0 next to my truck in the garage right now :) For first gen Tacomas, I'm more fond of late 90's Tacomas than I am the one's on Dan's green and red Tacos. I'm fuzzy on the which years the styling changed for these.

In terms of tech, I'm sure the stock 3rd gens LEDs are paramount like you said. But for some reason I don't like the look of the smaller size housing combined with the slant (even though the 2nd gen has the slant too). The chrome ones and the honeycombs on the 3rd gens look a lot better to me though than the black ones (not sure if those are the TRDs). This truck just isn't attractive to me:

Actually I got these one, gave me some cool washers, I had to drill out a tad. Then I used some grade 10.9 M8X1.25 from Autozone. Maybe 40mm. I kept the bolts in the rear from skid row because the arey lonter to go through the cross member.

my grandmas last boyfriend had a ridgeline with a dual outlet flowmaster (1st gen). And ive never heard anything sound so bad, except maybe a ram 1500 with displacement on demand and a flowmaster. The ram sounded like a pod racer, and when the guy put a tonneau cover on it, it would go into limp mode, and flutter between v8 mode and v4 mode. Something about the backpressure pulse wave. Had to put the stock exhaust back on.

Have you heard a modern ecoboost f150 with 'exhaust' on it? Awful.

Yea. V6’s are all lumped into their own category of terrible… except for those 350z/g35 screamers. Those are so bad they’re almost good.

My boost sounds like a Nissan Z in Baja mode. Not crazy about it at all. Straight six can sound pretty good though.

@shifty` Need your help, as I'm not real knowledgeable on GM stuff. Buddy of mine has an 07 1500 LTZ Silverado with a 6.0, only 100k miles and the thing is mint. Motor was acting up on him yesterday and he dropped it off at a shop. They are showing no compression on cylinder 1, and told him he needs a new motor and it will be 11k. Did they have AFM like the 5.3's? I'm thinking this should just be a pull the valve cover and see what's broken situation. Maybe a valve spring, or lifter? Only throwing misfire codes. They refuse to work on the engine, bc "it's not worth it with 100k miles". I disagree. What say ye?

Yea, open it up, check valves, lifters, all of it. Check compression, and spark plugs, too.

He is saying it was throwing white smoke out of the exhaust and they are now telling him they think it might be a piston or valve. Why would you not take a look with a borescope if you are a shop?!

white smoke could be a head gasket. Not very common on stock LS motors tho.
    Definitely worth more diag.

So, @des2mtn you'd pick the 2015 over the 2016 then?

Like this style, even more so with color matched instead of chrome.

The ridgeline with the lift doesn't look too bad IMO. :notsure:

    Better than driving it stock.

Post the numbers if you find them. I need to do the same sometime. Mine has a very slow leak around the dryer.
