Hey guys I’m really interested in going off roading and looking if anyone would like to go or knows where to go. Has to be legal, And I don’t mind paying. Would love to go out with a group and learn some new tricks along the way.

I’m just outside of Philly but have no problem traveling as I went to college in Wilkes barre so I know that area well too.

    respectfully submitted

Rausch creek and AOAA ( I think that's the name) are paid ones in PA that seem popular for off roaders. I've seen many people use Wharton State Forest in NJ and that is free. I personally have not been an offroading type. I rather drive to hiking trail and go for a walk.

    Monarch or Colonel?

Famous Reading Outdoors is another option. I was up there this past weekend in my GX470 for the Northeast Overlanders Festival and had a blast. There were a few Tundras up there wheeling.

Go to the Wharton State Forest on occasion as it's only 1/2 hour from home in South Jersey. Mostly relatively flat trails in the small sections that I've been through. Was usually alone so didn't get too adventurous even though I was driving a 2012 Raptor at the time. Free time is my biggest hurdle these days as I work a second job every weekend. So I take a day or 1/2 day during the week and head there. Also hit the Picalilli Inn on the way there or back for truly terrific wings.

I try to exclusively off-road at FRO, sometimes Rausch if I am looking for more challenging stuff, AOAA is just too wet and narrow for my liking.
Need to get a group of tundras out there soon.

Are there trails/obstacles there where it’s capable to have some fun offroad without pinstriping and scratching up the whole truck? I’d like to play around off road but my truck is my nice vehicle that I want to keep nice. I realize it’s hard to find off-roading spots in PA where the trails aren’t tight and often requires getting some scratches.

If anything I'd say FRO (famous reading outdoors) is the only offroad park in PA that is full size truck friendly, it's huge got open fields area and also narrow trails, as long as you know where you are going, it will be what you are looking for.

So what is the general consensus on the stock Tundra four wheel drive system? I'm not looking to go rock crawling but I'd like to think in anything I'd run into on paved roads, snow-wise, I'll be able to navigate. Specifically, if all goes well with a new position, I'll have a long commute that I won't have a choice but to make, no matter the snow here from southern Jersey up into the Manhattan area or even up towards West Point. Stayed with a little narrower and slightly smaller tire than I would have liked in order to fit into a parking garage I'll no longer be using so I could go a little wider, but I'm thinking these KO2s should be pretty good.

Didn't I see a "how to drive it in the snow" thread here somewhere?

tundras 4wd system is pretty simple and should be able to handle most of the needs you mentioned, for tires, if i were to get them again, I would have went with falken wildkpeak at3w over my ko2.

Why is that? Issues with the KO2s? Price?

My main 2 issues with KO2s are:
    1. Hard to balance, every other rotation, I have slightly shaky steering wheels around 55-60mph, I know it is due to one of the tires isn't balanced perfectly.
    2. Wet performance is bad. I slip tires just backing up on my very mildly inclined driveway in the rain, it surprised me.

Thanks for the extra info. I have similar experience with the slight vibration even though I keep up with regular rotating/balancing but I have not experienced any issues in rain. I feel the AT tires in general are wonderful rain tires as they allow you to travel at normal or near normal speeds in even the most extreme downpours due to the deep tread evacuating or just not being affected by the water. Haven't really had any inclines of consequence to deal with though.

Ture, AT is definitely less prone to hydroplaning due to the reasons you said, however, if you consider sudden acceleration/deceleration, at least for KO2 i know they are not great compared to say all season tires.

Wonder if it has to do with the chemical makeup of the rubber itself, trade off to be better in the snow I hope. I'll crawl into a hole and die if I get stuck on the way to work and one of these ridiculous electric vehicles drives past.

lol. I am sure its both compound and siping because they both contribute to wet/light snow/ice performance.

So please let me know next time anyone heading out for some off-roading. I see you were out in September. Looks like a good time. I need a break from driving into the city and parking it in a garage. Don't want the truck to get domesticated on my watch.

Well that didn't take long. I will look into it. Depending on work schedule, may be able to come up for a day at at least. Only a couple hour drive from home

Hit up FRO this weekend as well. Randomly met a group of Toyotas there recently and hit it off. Great group of people and it's been a blast exploring this place. Found may way down a trail the Tundra probably had no place being on but made it through with only an inch or so to spare. Actually impressed a group of Jeeps who were patiently waiting behind me.

It was a rain or shine event, I think it was canceled due to insurance reasons from the park side. I am still a bit sad :(

    Oh, interesting.

I still don't know my schedule or if I am working second job tomorrow, but it sounded like a good time. I may pick a random day and just go over and get the truck dirty and see what the place is about. I guess if only staying for the day, list of "supplies" is much less extensive. I'm thinking: some recovery gear (I only have a couple tow ropes and accessories), food, water, good clothing (coat, boots, hat, gloves once it gets colder), proper front seat passenger/navigator/recovery assistant. I'm thinking that I might want to invest in some bed boxes and fuel cans as this thing just wrecks anything approaching normal mileage.

I think it was the event organizers not getting insurance for the event on their end actually. From what I've heard, it happened before. I could be wrong though.
