You mean my dreams of selling my Tundra and buying a GMC 2500 AT4 gasser in today's market is not a good idea?! :D

    LOL

I actually liked the 1st Gen Ridgeline, and was planning on getting one someday as a secondary hauler...

...until the redesign. I actually love the way it drives, but honestly, I cannot get over the looks. IF I ever owned one I'd have to trick it out just to offset the milquetoast way it looks.

That goes for anything I'd get, but for a trip without the RZR I'd like to be able to go on rougher trails.

A Clydesdale would be ideal for the rougher trails. You will need to build a barn...:fistbump:

They ran the gauntlet test with it too iirc. Was closed to the Titan as far as performance.

They did, and it was essentially at it's max load. It seemed to do fairly well, for what it is. For towing the big complaints on the Frontier are the location of the safety hook loops and the lack of an integrated brake controller. Not horrible if you don't tow every day, and if you tow every day a midsize may not be the right choice.

That's actually something that is sinking in for me... I tow pretty regular in the summer. Several trips, and up/down some decent grades. Even at half the weight they tested with, I don't know if a midsize would be best for me. I might actually be in the right vehicle already. :monocle:

My safety hook loops are exactly the same that I had on my Taco, Tundra, and Tundra. The aftermarket brake controller connector is near the OBD just above it. $16 part required. Not a deal breaker at all. Trailer anti-sway is already there. Cost me another $40 for the cable and relay to activate that. Took 5 minutes to install behind passenger side kick panel. I had to install the trailer hitch and 4/7 pin connector, since mine didn't come with it due to supply chain issues. Hitch...$135, 4/7 pin connector with harness .... $90. 1 hour, Swiss Army knife, and two beer install time. Another good reason not to go with half assed you tube reviews or TFL. I've owned mine for almost 6 months now. I go by me....

The only gripe with the hook loops is how far under the bumper they are. Not that they are inferior. Brake controller is just a convenience gripe, as the vast majority of people buying cars/trucks don't do any modifications beyond window tinting. They point these things out so that the average buyer is aware. Certainly nothing that is a deal breaker for anyone who is planning to do a lift, wheels, tires, etc.

F++k Ha! I don't have my Tundra but the tow "loops"s aren't any harder to reach. Shit, the 22 Tundra doesn't even have tow "loops". (sorry, had to mention that)

Most of the 22's hitting the lots have complete tow package now. Still need brake controller tho. Fwiw

Yep. The tow package is an option though, so some trucks still don't have it. I think it's nuts to have any body on frame truck not include a tow hitch, but that's just me.

    #4......experience
While on my rare trips to get gas, a guy came up to me. "Is this the new Frontier?" "Can I check it out?" "Yep." After all said and done......"Damn, I bought a 19 Pro4-X last year. Should have waited for the 3rd gen."

Not nuts. Every Frontier on my dealer's lot has the tow hitch now. Can't vouch for the "S". "SV's" and a couple pre sold Pro's. On my build thread I mentioned that there were supply chain issues. I was credited $500 off the window sticker for lack of the hitch due to supply chain issue. That's just me.....

Now...to address the "tow hook" non issue.

    First pick...stock 07 SR5 coworker Tunny
Second pick.....my stock Frontier with no lift
Both pics at same angle and distance....actually my Frontier tow hook pic was slightly higher. hmmm....never used the tow hooks on my 09 Taco and both Tundras.....

    You forgot to add

    -The United States

to that list. Guess who funded the American revolution (if only because they hated the British). They provided arms, gun powder and cannons at first. Then, later on, they also provided soldiers, a navy and leadership.

In fact the French spent so much money to eff the British over that it was one of the direct causes of the French Revolution that deposed king Louis the XVI.

Then when the French Revolution began in 1789 we stayed the hell out of it.

Throwing in a "Jeeze Lueeze".......Nissan is no different than Yota. 22 Frontier has been out now for at least 7 months. Supply chain better. Will suck soon again. Possible war could cause a "hook loop" shortage that's rarely ever used. Ha! Kuul Nissan accessories, NISMO wheels and accessories available now. Most Frontier's showing up on the lot now are loaded. Not just hitches. Tech and Convenience packages. Most with spray on bed liners. Pricey as hell. Priorities....>>>>>life

Are we seriously discussing here a Nissan? I priced one out. Seriously, its amazing how much this half trucks cost.

Yes. The title of the thread is accurate.

Midsize trucks are all stupid expensive, but everything is right now. I don't actually utilize the full capability of the Tundra, and I have a bad habit of wanting to buy a vehicle every 2-3 years. Thus, I started down the rabbit hole of shopping cars I'd want in addition to the Tundra, and also anything that could meet my needs if I were to trade it. Here's some examples, and my trade/sale price of my truck would make it a straight trade more than likely.

    upload_2022-3-15_21-19-9.jpg

With it not adding to my debt at all there isn't a major financial deterrent to the Frontier. Heck, it gets slightly better MPGs so it would actually cost me a little less each month. The decision to be made is whether or not the downsize would be worth it. I'd be getting a brand new vehicle in exchange for one with 30K miles for no extra money. On paper it's not bad, but I'd be losing the roomy interior, the V8, and the history with my truck...and I'm not sure I am ok parting with a truck I love. It's just a way to more scratch the new car itch in a more financially responsible way.

    Dang those things look good.

I get the 2-3 year itch but I'll play into the way it seems you're leaning, keeping the Tundra.
•You already talked about the towing capacity but I'll mention it anyway, you'll be more limited with towing as your camping/Rzr activities evolve over the years.
•This is the last brand new 2.5 gen Tundra you will ever own. Unless you're 100% ok with giving that up, there will probably be some regret.
•The gas savings you would see could be offset by picking up a OT shift every few months, or by slightly adjusting spending on frivolous stuff.

I still plan to go test drive them, the Ranger, a Maverick, and a Challenger or two. Don't think I'll actually buy because of the 2nd point you made. I'll never have this kind of Tundra again, and I don't think I can do that.
