I'm getting what sounds like valve clatter on the passenger bank during the first acceleration from cold start. But it seems to be getting worse. When warm you can only hear it with the passenger window down. But when cold you can hear it in the cab with the windows up. I thought it was an exhaust leak but I can't find any exhaust residue anywhere. Currently at 36K miles. 4.6L DC

    Anybody else getting this??

Well I guess no one else has had this issue. I dosed it heavy with seafoam, did a whole bottle in the crankcase. Drove it about 85-90 miles and changed the oil. I'm thinking/hoping that some dealership retard put the wrong viscosity oil in and it wasn't thin enough. I tell you one thing that oil sure came out dark for 6500 mile oil after the seafoam. Amazing an engine with such low mileage running synthetic could have that much build-up. I'll report back as to whether this solves the problem or not. If it doesn't it's going post haste to the dealer.

Do you have a video or sound clip of the noise? Remember, there are 4 cams above the valves which makes them a lot louder than a typical domestic OHV V8.

No video. This is my 2nd Tundra, 5th Toyota Truck, and I used to be an Auto Tech so I know what all is going on under the valve covers. I also know that what I am hearing isn't normal for the UR series engines. I was primarily trying to see if anyone else had experienced this issue and did it get worse, basically stay the same, or was it something the dealer was able to repair.

I have a 1st Gen with 4.6 at work. Had "valve" noise while running, no codes. Was bad knock sensor. But also had reduced power. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm beginning to think it's a light ping on 1 cylinder. I'm hoping when all the seafoam moves through it will clean that injector or valve. If not she'll head for the dealer.

I just had cam cover worked on to repair a small leak I've had forever. Dealer did all the work. No leak now, but the truck sounds like a diesel. Took it to 2 dealers and they said this is normal... less than 47K I have 2 more years on my extended warranty or I would consider trading. Hope something happens in the next 24 months

My 5.7 sounds like a diesel when it idles. I think it's normal.

Hondas have the infamous honda tick, I think us Toyota guys have something similar.
