Does any one know if there is a signal booster for the factory xm radio? I lose signal on back roads with heavy tree cover.

I have never heard of an XM signal booster.

On a side note, we just canceled our (3) XM accounts after being long time listeners. Our home unit and two vehicles. Got tired of renegotiating a lower price each year when renewal came up. Thought we would miss it, funny....we don't. It was reaching upwards of $500 a year for two cars and our home unit, kinda crazy when you think about it. The cost did not justify the value and our use. FWIW...

XM use to have a terrestrial antenna.. it's no longer used since sirus bought them out they shut down the repeaters that that antenna would pick up.

Satellite radio is line of sight, which means it must utilize a clear path from your receiver to the satellites. Depending on your satellite radio service it can use only 1 or multiple satellites at a time in unison. XM uses 2 satellites that remain stationary over the US, and Sirius uses multiple in a 16 hour rotation where the satellites are directly over the US at 16 hour stretches at a time. Sirius satellites are positioned in a higher orbit and move much faster and actually revolve around the earth. XM stays lower and remains in a perfect orbit WITH the earth.

Bottom line....Both systems require line of sight and if you are blocked by anything then you're going to lose signal. Sorry man. The only way to remedy the situation is to utilize other means of radio broadcast or a player of stored music of some sort. I have multiple sources that i switch between. It's really the only way to get the best of all worlds

They are still up there for back up in case one goes down, which is very unlikely, and rare, but it does happen. Odds are it will happen once every 20 years but the lifespan of a satellite is pretty long and as soon as they figure out one is about to fail another one has already been in place for a while and the transition is virtually seamless

You are lucky Ron, mine stayed on for about two weeks and then finally was quit. I just got tired of haggling a better price with them each year upon renewal.

The comedy of it is those company's make soooooo much money on using waves that travel through air (that we can't see) because there iTs a monopoly. It's a shame the cunsumer gets screwed on a product just because it's become normal. Watch...satellite radio will go away and everything will end up being Internet based. Still using satellites but it'll turn into a higher bill for Internet to your car/truck and then we will want satellite radio back

Oh well. I was just hoping there was an after market antenna that had better reception ability.

You could try to use the siriusxm app on your smartphone and connect through Bluetooth or an aux input

Repeater is on the ground not in the sky.. it's in major cites where the bird can't be seen do to tall buildings..

Sirus has a spare in orbit and on the ground.. xm has none on the ground.

Two systems are not compatible to do the different mhz in the downlink..

Last time I checked XM is desolved.. once X5 dies 15 years ( battery failure) everyone will have to buy sirus tuners.

X4 is already 10 years old so if life is about gone..

Once X4 and X5 dies so will xm.. you do know

Do I need to remind anyone about 1999 Galaxy 4 failure?

Also time from building a spacecraft to orbit to testing to switch flip is about 3 to 5 years..

No disagreement there. I sensed some "i told you so" in your statement and i went back to re-read what was stated prior. I was still locked on to Sirius thoughts when I stated there are some in orbit for backup. I was incorrectly stating my point. You are certainly on the money, the two are not compatible. I also agree that satellite radio is old technology that is highly expensive for no more than it is. The future will do away with it and we will end up with a completely different style of transmission to vehicles, homes, boats, more in the form of internet being received (more than likely).

That's my thought process there...no data to back it up other than whats happening in my company to reinforce my point

The I told you so.... Na bro I'm making sure we are on the same page... ( people still think XM and sirus are different company's still today) trust me I have got in some good conversation about it.

Unfortunately I did alot of tvro yes look it up.. I have a c/ ku /ka band 10.5 foot deep dish, custom made horzion to horzion mount in my back yard and still active today. Yes I use to do headend work for the old time Warner Cable, 6 months I was bored.

Sat radio is good tech. Nothing wrong with it.. the way it was design and everything its really a good system. Is it old that is very debatable.. imo it's very good minus the bitrate is alittle screwy..

As we move way from sat tech ( DirecTV or att) will not be adding no more birds in the sky ever... DirecTV will go via cell tower and not sat. No dish on the side of your house. Dish Network has been testing the same system for 5 years now. That's why the big push for 5g and not lte-a anymore on cell towers.

Agreed. I manage a large portion of CO for ATT/DTV and know what's in the works. It's already moving that direction. The hiring we are doing is even geared in that direction and it's very far off in the distance for areas like mine where the cell/data is very sub-par at best, and the cable/DSL world is non existent. Satellite television will continue on until the birds burn out, just as you stated, but by that point we will already be inundated with more towers and 5g or greater.

The "I told you so" was taken as a corrective nudge, nothing more, nothing less.

Old technology is what's being used today (in most capacities). It moves so fast that the next steps are already upating...per say.

Bad technology...no. still good/cool technology for sure.

It's a cool looking future. One that makes me nervous about my outdated occupation.

Bored with the technology and work on the front end..sure. most people in the industry are unless you're on the development side.

Funny part about att(deathstar) , doesn't own any towers they sold all of them and lease them as a tax write off.

Uverse is dead. Dsl dead. Copper is dead. Give me fiber or give me death.

I think we have derailed this thread badly now.
