Your cover and truck look great! Do you have to roll the cover back and then close the tailgate, or can you open and close the tailgate without moving the cover?
    Thanks!

Thanks! You can open and close it without rolling back the cover. The gate slides right underneath the cover without obstruction when you open and close it. It's great.

Have the X4 which I purchased 3 years ago. It’s been fairly durable, 99% waterproof, easy to installs and use. Only small items that bother me seem to be fixed with the X4, such as the newer style caps on either end of the cover where it touches the tailgate, could reduce any water entry and if it touches the tailgate, may be less prone to searching the tailgate bumper cover. The material underneath the cover is no longer silver metal, this gets hot to the touch when rolling up during the summer, wondering what the new material is and how it benefits the product.

You have to drop the bed rails correct? Is it worth 1100.00 the new model? Thanks. It looks good.

You do have to drop the rails to put it on. You take them off (only on the sides), and then put the tracks for the cover on, and then you re-attach the bed rails to the cover tracks. It's really easy.

As far as the price tag goes, my Truck didn't have a cover, so I didn't have the old model or anything else, but I will say it's great. Super easy to install and use. Really convenient to roll up and down and get access to the whole bed when you need it.

Thank you!! I’m leaning towards this one. Just not sure spending that much because if having covers in the past. But I like how this works.

How much lower does the oem bed rail go after install? I’m assuming it drops about an inch?

On my 2019 Tundra, the rail was dropped and also moved in toward the middle of the box. I have a Toyota bed divider, and the small reduction in width meant that I would have to trim the ends of the bed divider off to get it to fit again. The vertical drop wasn't an issue.

On a separate note, we live in a cold climate, and my BAK Revolver X4S freezes shut all the time. Like completely frozen shut. I took it back to the place that sold it to me and they did a warranty claim through BAK, and the rails were replaced. But no difference - it just froze shut again. And we don't even get freezing rain here, just cold and snow. So I've bought a velcro soft cover and have to sell the X4S.

I've had a BAK Revolver X4S almost 2 years now. Would never buy one again or any other that is similar design with the rolling slats covered with vinyl. They can't stand up to regular use and hot weather. Mine has slats that have come unhinged in 3 places. The vinyl is cracking and coming unglued in several places. The vinyl glued to the aluminum slats seems to be what keeps the slats hinged together. They don't use a true hinge like what is used on doors. They use plastic near the locking mechanism which ends up cracking. So if you plan to use this cover regularly like a few times a week and keep your truck outside in hot sunny weather, you might have issues with this cover.

I wonder if you just had a defective cover. I had an X4 on my Ram for three years, in the hottest and most humid part of Texas, and it was always parked outside and was used at least twice a day. I had none of the issues you mentioned.

Mine was fine for almost a year in Florida. Then I moved to Central America. A few months later and the vinyl started cracking and one of the slats kept coming unhinged when rolling/unrolling. Now the vinyl has shrunk a little and cracked in a lot more places and 2 or 3 more slats keep unhinging. The locking latch cover has cracked on one side since it is made of plastic. I honestly don't think I have a defective cover. I just don't think it is a robust design. The slats remain hinged together until the vinyl starts losing its adhesion to the slats.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree. Mine was fine for three years in direct sunlight on a daily basis with multiple uses per day, and it looked/functioned on the day I sold my truck as it did on Day 1. If yours failed in under two years under similar circumstances, one of ours is different than the other. I think it is more likely yours was defective than it is mine was over-engineered.

After thinking about it more, I don't think our environments are exactly the same. I have a 3.5" Ironman 4x4 lift. So the ride is not as soft as factory. 90% of my driving here is off-road where it's rocky and bumpy in most places, especially during the dry season. I have put a lot of miles (17K) on the truck under these conditions. It is more likely that the constant jarring of the cover, especially when rolled up partially and full, that has contributed to its early demise.
