Pretty sure I know the answer but is there a way to fix this at home? (clearcoat issue)

Actually havent even taken delivery of this truck. 2007 Limited with 72K but there are some paint issues I know I am going to want to address asap. Mainly the clearcoat on the passenger rear door and the clear on the passenger side flares. Just curious if these are definitely a "yeah, you are going to have to get those repainted and cleared". Please let me know if you know.

Gonna need painted. The longer you wait the more labor intensive it becomes. Pretty simple as it sits.

Failed clearcoat, if it’s just the doors and flares a good shop could hypothetically color match. If you can afford it a full repaint would be an option

Just an opinion but you could wrap the truck? High gloss wrap looks very good and lasts as long as a repaint. Would be able to wrap even with the peeling since it’s not terrible

In theory that could work but usually when clear coat fails it’s a death sentence as long as it is exposed to the sun, Toyota paint has a tendency to be hit or miss with this. Your paint will either last 20-30 years or it’ll start peeling after 10 years. That’s why I said wrap is an option personally I am going to explore this option and make a YouTube DIY series out of it.

Barca red? I heard that red paint on these trucks was single stage blend, leads to issues with sun damage like you are experiencing

Salsa Red Pearl, only happening on the doors. Top and hood are good.

M 2010 is Salsa Red Pearl as well. I am going to finish the mods on mine this year, then consider a complete re-paint. Is it more expensive to change the color when you have it re-painted? I’ve never looked into this at all.

It’s much more expensive, since you have to paint the door jambs, engine bay, etc. if you don’t paint those things as well, it just looks silly.

Well its fixed. Had no intention of painting the whole truck but I have to say I am so glad I did. Looks fantastic. I did the grunt work myself to save money. Took everything off that I didnt want red. Looking forward to getting her put back together.

Cost me $2700 but I did all the work pulling EVERYTHING and the truck had absolutely no dents or dings so no body work needed.

Beautiful job. That truck is something to be proud of! Enjoy and congrats on having a great vision for what you wanted it to look like.
