Interior black out

I’m slowly blacking out my interior and have the shift gate, vent rings and steering wheel emblem ordered. My question is, has anyone found a company that sells the two pieces of plastic on each side of the radio in black? I found a company on Amazon that sells them in carbon fiber and red? I’m not interested in either of those.

You have the shift gate on order? The MESO kit didn't include one or you want the AJT one?

 

Going the same blackout theme. I ordered the OEM surround since I'll be in there anyway installing something else.

the MESO kit did include it. I just didn’t want to mess with drilling out the rivets like I had to do on the outer piece and messed up the OEM one I was replacing. The AJT just snaps on over what’s already there.

 

That’s the way to do it if you’re already going to be in there. That’ll look great.

 

Looks like it came out good but enjoy having every inch of your truck burn you at the touch during summer.

I just can't get behind all the chrome hate and dark colors, but as they say to each their own

I have a love hate relationship with my black 98 4runner.
Every time I look at it, I wish I had money to burn on a white paint job or wrap but it's just not worth it as it doesn't get driven right now.

Lay down some black vinyl because those don’t cover all the way to the glovebox. If they did it wouldn’t open right or something. I have those & the stick on them is something serious. so lay the black vinyl down 1st.

 

I’ve installed the AJT black out console trim but I went with the MESO black out kit this time around. I can’t find any video on installation of these pieces for the Tundra. With the AJT trim drilling and screws were involved. Are there any drilling etc involved with the MESO kits? Requires removal of the bottom console like the AJT to install?

 

Yes, at least for the shifter/cup holder area there is. The piece that surrounds the shift gate as well as the shift gate itself. The only thing you don’t have to drill out welds for is the cup holder surround in MESO’s black out kit.
I managed find a YouTube video of a guy putting the piece around the shifter in, but couldn’t find anything for the shifter gate. That’s why I ordered it from AJT. It just clips on over the existing piece and after I messed up the OEM piece that surrounds the shifter I’d had enough drilling out plastic welds for my liking.

 

What do you mean black vinyl? I’m not familiar with that.

 

I wish there was a one source vendor so I could be sure colors matched. I wish more parts were available in a matte finish. I would prefer that over the piano black.

 

Like a wrap job, but just a small strip of it. Or use electrical tape or something. See the review off Amazon below:

I did it & came out great. I’ve got the same piece & everything else black also. If I hadn’t of laid down some black vinyl it would’ve stuck out like a sore thumb…like the ignition does now. I gotta look into that…

From what I’ve seen on the interwebs doesn’t seem difficult at all. All of the center parts just pop off. Im still waiting on a few more things before the install.

 

It isn't easy.
A lot of parts have to come off before you can get that center panel off.
Look at the tabs on the part and you can see where it goes under existing dash parts.



You have to remove the radio (that's easy), the glove box, some of the instrument panel trim.
Yes, a lot of it pops off, but not all of it.
I'd suggest disconnecting the battery to do it.
There are airbags on both sides that have to be removed, at least I know the passenger side it does.
I wish I'd have taken more pics when I swapped mine.
I also wish I'd swapped it for a black one, I replaced my silver one because of a huge scratch..

To anyone thinking about doing this, make sure you order the correct part.
One is for 4WD the other for 2WD.

Looks real good! How did you black out the SR5 label on the center console latch?

Steering wheel is AJT trim & eBay logo cover.

All the other trim blackout is the overlays in matte black. You can find all pieces on Amazon & eBay. The under armrest door panels are the red ones from eBay. Those were the only ones I had to paint flat black. Then I matte cleared them like everything else.

They don’t all come in matte black, so some were shiny black that I hit with a matte clear coat. They all match really well.

I'll look into that.

All my stuff is AJT, I was lucky enough to get one of their logo covers before Toyota sent them the C&D.
I'll look for the door panel stuff on Amazon.
