I need some help everyone, wife and I are in the market for a new family car. We're looking at the tried and true Highlander or the newer comers the Telluride and the Palisade. Aside from reliability what do you all think of the looks and features alone. Also we're looking at the top of the line trims for each model.

We've been eyeing the new sequoia pretty heavily for a family car. Might be a few years before we jump on one, waiting until my truck is paid off and the new models been out for a few years. Wife drives a 2018 Malibu right now that works just fine. Good luck on the hunt, we both weren't a fan of the highlanders. That Kia is looking mighty sharp, but you're also buying a Kia so keep that it mind.

After surviving the blizzard of '22 here in Indiana, my wife said she wants a heated steering wheel in her next suv. We've been eyeing the 2022 platinum highlander as it looks to have all of the features we would want. We would also consider the Lexus Rx350L, and the GX, but that one may get a re-fresh for '23. If you don't plan on trading in anytime soon I would stick with Toyota, but if you're okay with some time in the shop the Kia is a nice ride too.

You don't list it, but your comparison should be between a Toyota Highlander or a Honda pilot.
Kia has came a long way from the disposable hamster cars, but it still is not the same quality caliber as the above cars.
Yes the Kia's are flashy and stylish now with modern patterns, and cool appearance lighting but what that really means is money was skimped somewhere else on the vehicle to hit the same price point.
My vote is buy one with less bling and a better track record for reliability.
Test drive them all. At the end of the day, it will come down to which vehicle you/your wife find most comfortable and confident to drive.

This. Kia's just aren't known to be a great purchase. Lease all the way. Resale value won't be the same as a Toyota.

Only reason why we won't consider the Pilot is because honestly it feels dated on the inside.
The reason we are even considering the Kia os because there's a local dealership here in town that will give you a lifetime warranty as long as you service the vehicle at their dealership. Never thought I would even consider a Hyundai either but man they've come a long way

Would love a Sequioa but I think it will be too much out of our price range

Heated steering wheel is a game changer. I have it on the Ram and my wife loves it said her next car has to have it

    Function before sparkle.
Honda Pilot is due for a 2023 refresh, but it’s still a fantastic family SUV. Proven engine and the 9 speed transmission has the bugs worked out of it. It basically a minivan without being a minivan. We love ours.

With that said, the Telluride sure is a nice ride for the price.

Test driving one has been a challenge we have owned plenty of V6 highlanders and were looking into possibly a hybrid but there are zero anywhere near us

With all this updated technology, turbos, R&D, current market - new vehicles are so overpriced these days.

Wouldn't buy one personally but I think those new kia's are pretty good looking.

My wife's family was Honda and so had some experience with a couple, not a fan.

Personally late model Toyotas have always treated me well. The Highlander is the safest bet.

Have you looked into the rav4 prime? It’s a plug in hybrid and the 22 look great also can get over 500 mikes on a tank. Check them out not sure how big your family is but I think it’ll be just fine for a family of 4

I think were going to go with the Highlander Platinum but I'm waiting to see what the mid cycle refresh will look like

I'd vote for the prime too, in almost 5k miles my wife only filled up 3 times.

I owned a '21 highlander platinum for a few months before swapping it out for my Tundra and it was super nice. Comfortable interior, loaded with features and nice to drive. Prior to that I had a '19 Kia sorento and that thing was also really nice, even at a lower trim level. It was faster and more fun to drive and still managed better MPG. I would take a hard look at the telluride if you're able to test drive one.

I was able to finally test drive the Telluride, friend of ours bought an SX and brought it over. I did like the way it drove and do like the extra space especially in the third row. Not very impressed with the materials used on the inside not sure how they would hold up as I was also able to check out a 2020 a few weeks ago and the interior was not in the greatest of shape. I was also not the biggest fan of the dash layout and the lack of storage. We had a 2020 Highlander and a 16, and 17 and were big fans of the small cubbies in the dash

If you do end up in the highlander then I think you'd be really happy with it. It felt very luxurious in there with all the soft leather everywhere. I especially liked the captains chairs in the middle row.

Started a thread like this in 2020, and finally purchased a vehicle for my wife last weekend. She ended up getting a 2020 Subaru Forester Limited. Has to be one of the more popular cars out here in PNW. Seen them everywhere, but never been in or driven one until last weekend. I am impressed with all the extra features that this vehicle came with, for 35,500. Will fit 4 adults comfortably. May not be the best interior picture but if read up on the upgrades may be good for you.
