So I have been having an issue with my AC. I had a schrader valve leak from my lo side line. I didn’t know any better and just replaced the valve cause all the refrigerant leaked out one day while on a road trip in Utah in the summer. So like a dumbass I just filled it back up with refrigerant from the local auto parts store without vacuuming the lines. I didn’t know this had to be done. That’s where this is my fault. So it was all good for several months. Then one day the wife went to work and called me saying it smelled really bad inside the cab and that the ac was no longer working. I decided to research and found out I needed to vacuum the lines first after fixing any leaks and doing a pressure test then filling it back up thru the gauges that the kit came with. I decided to replace all o rings on the engine bay first. I would have gotten the refrigerant out first but it had already leaked out and had zero pressure in the lines. So after I did that and vacuumed the lines and did a pressure test I was good to fill back up since it held pressure after 30 minutes. This time I added refrigerant that had dye in it and stop leak in it as a just in case. I was testing the system out and no smell and ac working great. I decided to look for leaks with the UV light and I noticed some dye coming out of my evaporator tube. After about 5 minutes the dye went away and just clear water was coming out and ac working fine. I have been turning the GX on daily for the past 2 days after that and noticed more dye sitting at the drain tube. Not a lot. But again after 5 minutes or so of water coming out no more dye just clear water and ac working fine.

So the question is… Is my cooler evaporator leaking and needs to be replaced since that’s the only place I see dye at? It’s a lot of work to replace the part as the dash has to come out. And why is it just a little bit at start up only then clears up? Thanks.
