Magnuson Super charger or 5.29 Nitro Gears? My tundra has lost some power due to lifting it 7 inches and putting 35's on it. I know these two are way different especially price wise... Leaning more towards the gears because I would like to tow comfortably with the 35 inch tires. Does re-gearing the diff effect reliability?

    Too many, but not enough....
Gears since it will help power and your tranny. SC will only help your power and not the tranny, plus it will put more strain on your drivetrain. Gears all day.

SC is the cat's meow, I'd give almost anything to have one.

But as MadMax said, gears are the best choice by far, and you can go to 37's after that lol.
Also make sure to tow a fuel trailer everywhere you go.

Had a long conversation with dirty deeds on gears and he is all over the 5.29. @dirtydeeds can give you all the specs. I can say I put on my 10” bamuffler and am impressed. This conversation and question is what I went through in my head and still am. Lift and gears (looks/naturally aspirated reliability) or keep my current set up and supercharge. I am still going through this internal debate.

How about some pics of the before and after? The specs Keith listed were like 40 hp to the wheels on a dyno by regearing to 5.29. The guys at the off-road shop I was looking at getting my lift and 35s felt 5.29 was too high. Basically you’re at 3k rpm on the highway. They said if anything 4.88

keith will tell you the 4.88 isn’t enough and he knows more about the tundra than those guys

Gears, it's better on the transmission and you can add a lsd or locker while the diff is open.

Supercharger > gears imo. However since you have a 21 that complicates things with tuning for the blower, which means reliability is further compromised. I think your best bet is gears until they can figure out 2021 tuning.

Unfortunately, if there has to be a choice, choose gears.

a supercharger is like getting a cut on your hand. It gets infected. You go to the doctor. Instead of giving you antibiotics he gives you meth.

we have gears and can ship ASAP, finally!!! And feel free to give a call with more info.

5.29 all day. I’ve tried both. I’m not going by a ‘chart’ or eye ballin a mathematical equation. I’m going by experience.

4.88 would be good with your combo. 5.29 is even better with zero downside.

:deadhorse: IMHO gears 1st.... (and LSD if thinking SC) After speaking with Dirty Deeds when I bought the BAM and hearing his knowledge and experience on the Tundras was easy decision on gears for 37's and towing purposes... skilled installer is key. Decisions I've made all accommodate the SC should future permit. Although the truck is a beast again with the gears alone.

    @ Cement Shark TRD,

I had this very same dilemma 18 months ago. I went from 33's (best overall ride and mpg balance IMO) on TRD Pro suspension to 37's + 5.29 gears.
I followed the break in procedure to a T and so far no issues. Best description I can give is the acceleration is restored and the truck feels more responsive to pedal input.

For what it’s worth, I’ll chime in and agree with everyone on upgrading your gears to 5.29, your transmission will thank you as well haha.

How long did the break in period take for you? Was it a pain? I’ve heard mixed reviews. I’ll be running 37s shortly.

I want to install a rear locker. If I’m going to do gears as well, it would probably be beneficial to do them at the same time. I’m on 285/75R18s. I call them skinny 35s even though they’re 0.3” taller. What will 5.29s do for me, @dirtydeeds? Where will my RPMs be @ 75mph?

I’ve had both. The question would be, what are you using it for? I had both in my Taco with a lift and 35’s and lost a ton of top end. I’ve also had the supercharger with 37’s and 7” on my 2017 and loved it and didn’t need gears after. I didn’t do any crawling, etc. if you plan to crawl and Offroad/ Overland, etc. I’d get gears but know you’ll tap out at around 90 or so on the freeway. Just my .02. I’m saving for an SC in May. (I had zero issues with my Magnuson superchargers or Nitro gears. I ran 5.29’s.)

I’ve actually never heard of that before. You and I are both in the LA area, is there a particular shop you’d recommend to have that done prior to them being installed?

About 2500rpm at 75 indicated (about 79mph in reality).

Not true, you're at ~2800rpm at 90mph (~85 indicated depending on tire size). I can easily go over 100mph in even 5th gear let alone 6th.

5.29s are the way to go, 4.88s are a minor increase in torque to save your engine revving an extra 300rpm. The 5.7 is perfectly happy revving high, and with 5.29s it's essentially idling when cruising so it isn't working hard.

Supercharger is a huge difference but hp per dollar is eh. If you have the money go for it!! I mean gears and a supercharger wouldn’t hurt anything other than your wallet man haha. It would be pretty awesome, the gear ratio you’d have to ask around to match up. There’s a lot of options for the 5.7

I’ve heard 5.29s are the better option, for a 2WD your spending about $1500 so it makes sense to do the 5.29s for sure

I ordered the gears REM polished, I didn't need to go to a shop to have it done. I know metal/steel companies do REM polishing.
