If it's a pistol version, be sure it's co2 and not spring powered. Night and day difference in power

I still have one of the pellet rifles for over 15 years. I'll get the name off it later

For pistols, be aware that those with the blowback function use up some of the charge, recocking the gun, so are not as powerful. The advantage is that they tend to have a lighter trigger pull. By contrast, single action without blowback, tend to be more powerful, but have a heavier trigger pull which can hurt the accuracy.

Choosing the right gun always starts with the same question - what are you going to use it for? Does it need to shoot hard enough to kill something? If so, what? How accurate does it need to be? Will you need to make a quick follow up shot?
I recently purchased a Gamo bone collector co2 pistol that reviews said were good. I found that POI didn't match POA at any distance and sights were fixed. So what I thought would be a fun plinker and maybe take the occasional mouse, squirrel, rabbit or rat, doesn't get used. I don't recommend it unless you just wanna spray a lot of pellets.
At the other extreme is a Daisy 747 that is crazy accurate and at one time was used for Olympic training. But it's a single shot and only shoots about 450fps, so not a good squirrel killer. Fun and cheap though. Co2 cartridges are expensive. Happy hunting.

Aren't these considered a deadly assault revolver in California?

Nothing more fun than running around in Carharts and goggles shooting your friends. Yes, I am an adult.

Just saw on the local news this morning about a kid in Antioch who got shot in the chest by a pellet gun and died. WTF?

There are pellet rifles that shoot in excess of 1200 to 1400 feet per second. Quite lethal.
